I recently purchased a Stellarvue AT1010 with a Televue Everbrite diagonal. I wanted something small, sharp, and very portable. I wanted something for scanning the star fields and still shows you what is out there. And the Stellarvue does a good job. I mount it on a Bogen 3296 with a 3047 head( handles 16.5 pounds). Together they make a steady, hasslefree setup. There is some false color, buts its not as bad as my Orion Astroview 120st ( which is also a very nice scope). Together the Stellarvue and the Orion make a good team. The Stellarvue for its sharp optics and snap focus, and the Orion for its deeper sky penitration. Add Pentax XL eyepeices to these small refracters, and I have a very good, hasslefree pleasent night under the stars. recomended.

>Star test: Out of collimation from factory. I know of three other people who have experienced this with their scopes.

I also had one out of collimation form factory plus a scratch on the lens. Sent it back to Vic he replaced the lens and all was fine.

This problem has been eliminated. Not that it was serious. With 1300 scopes sold in two years and only a handful knocked out of alignment by UPS this was not serious. In addition, this individual was encouraged to return it for a free fix but refused. What else can we do?

The new model AT1010's now use a push pull system in our aluminum lens cell. Each lens is now held in place with four screws cushioned with rubber o-rings. So if UPS drops the box, the lenses are held in alignment.

However, if something occurs, we will repair it and encourage our customers to let us do so. We do not want damaged telescopes on the market. Most of our business is word of mouth.

>I have had a number of Stellarvue AT1010 scopes and after their ads I was expecting a really good scope, almost an semi-apo and a really smooth focuser.

I have to agree..I tried two of these telescopes and sent both back. Pinpoint images? no, stars were not pinpoint images and had flares. Yes, they are "built like a tank", impressively built.. maybe too heavy for their size.
Do you really want a telescope that can't be collimated in case you get one that needs it?
