I would much rather have the heavy duty tripod. The optics are excellent, and if you install home-made index pointers on the fork, and mounting rail, most of the goto glitches disappear. The only other thing I personally would recommend is to replace that red-dot pointer with an 8, or 9X50 spotter. This way, you aren't limited to goto astronomy, but can use it like a traditional scope. You can use the RA/Dec entry from the alt-az mode also.
