I OWN A MEADE 2080 LX THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN THE 1980'S. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A CELESTRON FIELD REDUCER/CORRECTOR AND DISCOVERED THAT THE THREADS ON THE BACK OF THE TELESCOPE WERE CUT INCORRECTLY AND CONSEQUENTLY WON'T ~~~OW ANY THING BUT THE ORIGINAL VISUAL BACK, WHICH HAS VERY LOOSE FITTING THREADS, TO BE THREADED ON PROPERLY. CLOSE EXAMINATION REVEALED WHAT APPEAR TO BE A "FLAT SPOT" AT ONE POINT IN THE THREADS. I KNOW THESE ARE NOT AS A RESULT OF DAMAGE BECAUSE THE SCOPE HAS HAD VERL LITTLE USE.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS?? I WILL WATCH THIS SITE FOR ANY ANSWERS. THANKS,
TOM IN SOUTH WEBER UTAH

Better late than never - but some of the original Meade 2080's had non-standard SCT threads. Yours could likely be one of those. If that is the case, you are likely stuck using whatever accessories it came with. If you take the scope and the focal reducer to a machinist, they may be able to fabricate an adapter of some sort - but it would have to be very short, as you don't want to lengthen the optical train any further than necessary.
