Replaced mount with WO GT1-HD, finder with 6x30, had the mirror checked (better than 1/4 wavefront error/better than 1/8 wave surface error) and recoated with Enhanced Aluminum on both Primary and secondary. Baffeling the interior is a must.

These improvements move the scope into an substantially higher level than the orginal configuration but confirms that there is lots to work with once the owner receives their unit.

Recommend users learn to collimate as this one practice increases the return more than anything else. Note that once collimated it holds it fairly well. Ventilation, cool down times must also be respected and dew heaters are a must here in the northern latitudes. As an entrance scope at the price, I recommend it very highly.

>Star tests well at around 1/5th wave on the primary. decent contrast ( inside of the tube needs to be dealt with however ). Finder sucks. Focuser is usable with a few mods ( will be upgrading though ). Objective cell is excellent. Mount is plenty sturdy with damping times of 3-4 seconds. The tube straps need to be replaced or highly modified ( I chose to modify them using some vise-grips e-mail me if you wanna see it ). With a little work it is an excellent value.

I love my 10" Starfinder, but the tube straps leave much to be desired. Eventually, I'd like to get some hinged rings, but as finances are a concerrn, I am interested in seeing your modifications to the tube straps. Thanks.

The scope is poorly made, cardboard tube with no end caps. My scope had alignment problems too. The mirror lasted 2 years in my basement. I always covered the scope, but the mirror coating started scouring by itself! Also, the scope uses leather straps as rings. Just poorly made. I would suggest putting your money elsewhere.

Subject: It is just a very bad scope

(1) Very bad main mirror figure. I estimate its astigmatizm at least in 2/3L. Resolution limit >>1" It is the second one, the first was much more worse (astigmatizm > 1L).
(2) Secondary mirror limits real aperture into 8.5" I have to replace focuser and main mirror to get real 10"
(3) Very bad plastic focuser (shft, frail)
(4) It not possible to ajust secondary - bad aligmnent bolts
(5) Aluminium worm wheel with improper tooth cut-out - easy to ruin
(6) Bad way to attach mount head to column - it is hard to fix the coupling
(7) Very bad finder
(8) Wonky connection of head to scope
(9) Unsure elecronics
