TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I recently purchased a 2.5x Powermate although I thought I never would.
After receiving the newly introduced 16mm type 5 nagler, I found that the
Ultima barlow (and standard 2x tele-vue) strongly vignetted when used with
it and,to my surprise, with other medium focal length eyepieces. Not only that
but the outer portions of the field was also unsharp with the 16. The Powermate
works perfectly and it is parfocal with the 16. It also works extremely well
with longer focal length eyepieces, including 40mm, with no vignetting and
images sharp to the edge. Lattly, the ultima barlow (which works very well
on most eyepieces), can now be used before the 2.5x powermate for perfect 5x
performance.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
You won't even know you are using a barlow. Only drawback is that it is not threaded for filters, but this is not a problem for me because I thread the filter onto the eyepiece barrel instead. Images seem sharper than the Ultima 2x, which I also own. The powermate is also very close to parfocal with my other
TV plossls, which means I don't need to refocus when I switch between the EP and powermate.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
For some time I had gotten away from using barlows and resorted to getting more EP's. That was an expensive lesson. I had the Ultima and purely by accident discovered the tan haze and loss of contrast it added. I love the Ultima line so I never had any reason to doubt it's the best in it's price range. It might be.

Just before my CCD arrived is when I made the "tan haze" discovery. I had planned to barlow for planetary images. I bought the Powermate and haven't looked back. To quote another, "it adds nothing, it subtracts nothing". Crystal clear images with high contrast and no image breakdown. I've manged to sell much of my EP collection and kept the select few. Mars was incredible! I used the Powermate with a 7mm Pentax SMC Ortho in my MN-76 for a magnification of 400x. This wasn't just one of those once a year nights. The seeing would blur in and out from time to time. This scenario played out on many nights. It works great with the only Radian(12mm)I have left as well. Lunar views seem to beg for more magnification.

The ratings here are often skewed IMHO. We seem to think "our stuff is great". It's a good feeling. Unfortunately there are too many 10's handed out. If it's a 10 it should be perfect. If it's the best considering it's price, how about a 9. Any other detriments from that should remove points. Aside from that, it still comes down to an individual's opinion. My rating: 10.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I have an 8" SCT at f/10 and it's an excellent addition to my kit. Many times better than the Meade Apochromatic 2x Barlow that I was using. Focus with a Meade 18mm Super-Wide Plossl and the Meade Barlow was a bit soft. I thought it was just the higher power. With the PowerMate, the focus is tack sharp and truly "snaps" in like it is supposed to. It is better than the TeleVue 2x Barlow, also.

The PowerMate works great with Celestron's binoviewer, two 18mm Super-Wides, and the 8" SCT.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
Outstanding barlow lens. It's much better than my former Celestron Ultima. No chromatic aberration and sharper image. It's like there's no barlow in there...

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
Hi, folks,
I used it with my Takahashi FS-102 and a
Vixen LV-5 and was impressed.
Very sharp and no colour and that at 400x.
This one I take into my grave.
It's not a 10 because it has no filterthread.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
This is one superb accessory! Its sharper than any Barlow I have seen, and isn't really a Barlow! When its in the optical train, its like it isn't there (just a 2.5x boost in power). I highly recommend this one!

The best you can buy, robust construction, opticaly corrects allot of middle of the road EP's, once you own one never sell it.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I've used a lot of barlows (ultima, apogee
shorty, homemade barlows, and the klee). This
image amplification system (it's not technically a barlow)
is the best "barlow" I've used yet. Only other barlow I
would consider buying again would be the ultima (besides this
one . But the ultima suffers from barrel size problems for some
eyepieces as well as vignetting on other eyepieces. 2.5
magnification is also perfect for my needs (3x is often too much
for me. 2x is also good.).

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I decided that since I will only be getting one barlow (or barlow like device) I my as well get the best. Reading the reviews of the Powermates, I have seen nothing other than glowing reports. I decided to purchase a powermate 2.5 despite the high price. It was worth every penny. It is like having bought a whole new set of eyepieces. Everybody says the same thing but it is true, it is like the powermate is not even there, it does not introduce anything but more magnification. Excellent product.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
It's the best "barlow" for 1.25" eyepieces. Absolutely crisp views with the 16 Nagler T5, Pentax 20 XW, and Nagler 9 T6. Zero image degradation. The only problem is that there are no filter threads, which would have made it useful for the laser collimation trick on a Newtonian.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I've been using shorty 2x barlows -- one from Orion and the other from Celestron, and the Powermate blows them away. It is like it isn't there, yet the images are bigger. I have no idea how they do it. So I'd say it is well worth every dime. It made my 5" SCT into a scope that I didn't recognize.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
When folks say that there is no degradation of image quality when the Powermate is placed in the optical path, they are absolutely correct. I have no idea why this item is so superior to a Barlow, but I would never think of getting a Barlow if I had the funds to purchase a Powermate.

An excellent piece of equipment. I use it with my Axioms and Pentax in a large SCT and 4.7" refractor. Good results in both, no chromatic problems, flat field, sharp.

TeleVue Powermate 2.5X
I concur with all that has been said thus far. I will add, however, that this is not just a barlow as there are some technical differences. I experienced vignetting with all focal length televue plossls with both my Ultima and 2.8x Klee barlows. The powermate was suggested to remedy this situation and it worked perfectly. A very special piece of equipment.

Works great and does all that it is advertised to do. I was using this in my Takahashi Sky 90II along with a Televue 8mm Ethos and the results were simply amazing. It turned my 8mm Ethos into a 4mm Ethos.
