Baader Neodymium
Used on an 80mm f5 short tube refractor. No visible reduction in false colour on bright objects (D. Hinds ad. says it will remove false colour). Belts on Jupiter slightly enhanced. Not tried on moon. Little difference with regard to skyglow - may reduce it a little but also dims object being viewed. Spend more money - I wouldn't buy again!

Hmm strange i've looked on the David Hinds website and it makes no mention of it being a CA remover. Which off course you wouldn't expect to be because that was never it's purpose anyway. It has to be used in conjunction with the Baader Fringe Killer to remove false colour. And there's no filter in the world that will remove all the false colour from an 80mm f5 achro. Only really effective on the f8 - f10 models.

And as for little difference on Skyglow...no way!!!

I think you forgot to screw in the filter!

Bought mine from David Hinds Optical and am totally delighted with it.

It kills skyglow while reducing light throughput only slightly (all filters exhibit transmission losses. the laws of physics see to that).

A very useful accessory for the small scope user living in urban areas.

This multiband filter is far cheaper than the specialised narrowband types and provides good transmission while being very effective at killing skyglow.

It gets my vote.

Does a great job of reducing skyglow. False colour I'm not so sure about as my 80mm F5 has a lot of it so its probably asking to much of it.

On the planets using my 127mm Mak its great. Clear improvement adding much contrast and helping to bring out some fine detials in Jupiters belts.

When I use it with my webcam it works wonders !! on long expousers it has a massive effect on sky glow oit almost completely eliminates it but does introduce some shift in colours. On the planets a whole new level of detail appears in my images theres no comparions between images with and without the filter. The results make the detail seen look more like the images from an 8in SCT.

It is because of this I have rated it 10 for value. It is after all one of the cheapest accessories you can buy in this hobby.

A very good filter for planets. Enhances the features on Jupiter without noticable loss of light or significant color shift. Far better than simple color filters, of which I hardly ever use, this one really will enhance contrast. A bargain at $30-$40.

Baader Neodymium
I purchased this filter to help with doing planetary and DSO shots with my digicam during Jan 2003. It's a great filter for Jupiter - brings out the edge detail for the major bands, enabling viewing of eddies and festoons. For the moon, I like how it keeps the moon looking like the moon without too much color cast, unlike the green or brown moon filters.

On DSOs, it helps to provide a bit more contrast for nebulas, good for small scopes where light is a premium, while maintaining color balance for photography.

I purchased the 2 inch version of this filter in addition to the 1.25 inch version. The 2 inch version I'm using on my digital camera for piggyback shots to help reject light pollution.

This filter sold me on Baader and I've replaced nearly all my Orion starter's set with the Baader filters.

Cheap, makes Jupiter look better than without filter.Personaly I see more detail thru a simple 80A blue.
I dont find it any usefaul as i already have an 80A.
