Saturn is the best crowd pleaser for women at star parties.
Guys tend to like Jupiter more. I don't know why.

Saturn
Sure to bring delight to those seeing it for the first time.
So cartoon-like, the typical initial reaction is that it can't be real.

I have had people look down my dob to see if I had a "picture" in there.

I myself prefer globular clusters and bright nebulae. But to show kids and inexperienced adults, there is nothing even close to Saturn. Half the comments are that it looks fake. But everybody says 'WOW' at least once.

Gave me chills when I first found it on my own
in my old 60mm Tasco beginner scope! Still my favorite
in my Celestron 80mm refractor!

Among the celestial bodies visible to the casual observer, I
still consider Saturn the crown jewel.

When I first started using my telescope, I didn't know where the planets are and was a neophyte in locating stars and constellations. I picked a brighter "star" and was very surprised to see the rings. It was amazing to see Saturn and was so overjoyed, I felt like I was the one who made a huge discovery. I have a bigger scope now but even with my small (4") Cassegrain, I could still see one moon the shadow of the planet on the rings. Always like Saturn and Jupiter!

Why Saturn is the best celestial object ... because my wife thinks it's amazing.

The first time she looked through my C8 and saw the shadow of Saturn's rings on the planet, she was dumbfounded. From that point on, she's been much more tolerant of my hobby.
