Orion Nebula
So bright and large that detail is very easy to see.

Orion Nebula
This is the only nebula which looks good under just about any sky conditions with just about any kind of optical aid.

Your description of where to find it is WRONG: it is the centre star in Orion's SWORD, and is NOT in Orion's belt.

Orion Nebula
Absolutely the best nebula. Actually saw it as distinctly
green in a 7 inch telescope. The trick was to look at the
nearly full moon until eye fatigue set in, then I swung the
telescope around to look at it. It was not subtle at all.
I was awed. All I can figure is that the cones in my eyes
were working overtime after looking at the moon. I've never
heard anyone mention this technique before.

Orion Nebula
Great in my 3in. Refractor, color was easy to see with the 13mm. Nagler, it appeared pastel violet-red, at a dark site.
The tendrils of nebulousity were clearly visible, and the heart of the nebula was an intricate web of bright and dark areas. All this detail without a nebula filter!

Look, this is the Nebula! I mean this is it! There isn't another Deep Space object quite as striking as this. Just show your prospective target, (you know the one you want to turn into an amatuer astronomer,) this nebula, along with a couple of planets, (Jupiter and Saturn, of course,) and if you don't hit the bullseye, nothing else probably will! This nebula is simply beautiful -- impressive in a small scope and richly satisfying in a medium sized Dob.
