Antares Plossl 32mm

It is hard to go wrong with a $37CDN 32mm plossl. With its generous eye relief and fine edge to edge sharpness, this ep offers up decent performance at a very good value. The thing that amazes me is that at this crazy low price, I also received a bolt container for the ep.

I didn't plan on using this ep for extended viewing, but rather as a 'finder-helper' to locate faint fuzzies. My expectations were quite low, but the performance I'm getting from this ep is more than a little surprising.

I've observed (82mm F8.5 refractor) the moon and some deep sky - open clusters, globulars & brighter galaxies. The coatings are adequate and I couldn't find any obvious faults with the optical performance.

If you're broke (like me) or looking for a 32mm ep to lose at public star parties, I think the 32mm Antares Plossl may be a good choice. Try it out.

Antares Plossl 32mm

This one offers a lot for your money. I couldn't find much abberations, maybe a bit of field curvature and color fringing at the very edge, as long as you have a "slow" scope (f/7 or more). In a f/6, abberations are more pronounced, but acceptable at that price...!
Eye relief is long, almost too long for the eye cup (your eye is away from it). I experienced some 'kidney bean' effect, maybe a bit too much, worsten when combined with my Barlow (Celestron Ultima). Contrast is not the best, so DSOs are a bit too dark.
For the rest I say it's a good EP for the price. I intended to use it as a 'star finder' or to hop around from star to star, but it's not making it justice.

Evaluation was done using a 114mm f7.9 Newton, a 200mm f6.0 Dob and a Celestron C80 ED on occasion.
