TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
Sharp, but not pinpoint sharp like the Pentax XL line at the edge despite higher price. Crappy eyecup compared to Pentax XL line. It just leaves smudge marks on my eyeglasses if I touch it to take in the whole field. Poor eye relief compared to Pentax XL line, despite being advertised as having 19mm, 1mm less than than the Pentax XL line. It really is closer to 15mm. Those last 4mm reduce the field of view to about 55 degrees at 20mm of eye relief, no better than the 28mm Pentax XL. The field stop is sharp and well defined. There is no kidney beaning that I've detected, unlike a modified plossl at this focal length. Very comfortable to use if you are willing to live with the 55 to 60 degree field of view when using eyeglasses. That field of view is sharp to the edge. Getting 68 degrees is tough on eyeglass nose pads and proves to be somewhat less sharp. It also scratches eyeglasses like crazy due to the top retaining ring being exposed and very sharp edged.

For the money, it should have a really usable 19 or 20mm of eye relief, a decent, variable eyecup that doesn't attract eye grease, no exposed metal at the top, and be pinpoint sharp to the edge. As such, I have to ding it a few notches from being a perfect 10.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
An excellent eyepiece. Better than the 35 panoptic in light polluted areas because it cuts back on the skyglow. Highly recommended.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
Oh my! For medium to large f5-ish dobs, this eyepiece is tough to beat, on open clusters and milky way star fields. Pin cushion distortion not nearly as noticable as on 35 panoptic with better contrast.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
The more I use this eyepiece the more I like it. Fantastic contrast and light transmission on my 8" SCT (a scope not know for high contrast views). I had no problem seeing NGC 2024 near Zeta Orionis with this eyepiece and a f6.3 reducer. Extremely sharp to the edge in every scope I've tried it in. I wear glasses and don't have any problem seeing the field stop - all 68 degrees unlike some others posting reviews on this eyepiece. This is a "must have" eyepiece IMO. Not too heavy or bulky for a 2" ep. Should be easier to balance than most of the "super heavyweights".

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
At first I talked myself out of buying this eyepiece because I have the Nagler 20 and the TeleVue 32 Widefield. Upon using the 27 as well as the 35 Panoptic and comparing them to what I had, I talked myself in to it. I am very happy with mine, it's a keeper! Much easier to use than the Nagler 20 and I can see all the field all the time. Size is much more moderate. Did like much better than the 35 Panoptic in my comparison.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
This with out question is my favorite low power eyepiece. It works beautifully in my Starmaster 12.5 f/5 dob, C8, and my Celestron 102mm FL f/9 Refractor. Stars are pinpoint. Contrast is excellent. Edge correction and field flatness are at the level of the best of my eyepieces. In never fails to satisfy. It's a great one, and comes highly recommended.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
Very sharp and bright. Slight astigmatism at edge on fast reflectors, but that is to be expected. Chose this EP because it is generally sharper than 35mm Panoptic. Could not get 35mm to focus in Televue 5.5" refractor. Also much more moderate in size and weight than 35mm or 31mm Nagler.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
This is my 100x eyepiece for my C11. Good tradeoff between brightness and image size. Works well in moderately light polluted skies, giving darker background then 32mm Konig. This is the eyepiece I use for scanning to find an object. Some coma (pincushioning) on outer edge, but not objectionable. Head placement somewhat critical, almost too much eye relief. It is my choice for low power observing.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
A wonderful eyepiece. A step above my very good 24.5 mm meade extra wide. Great wide sharp views with my 4 inch fluorite refractor. One day I'll buy one of these. Eye relief could be better but other than that a superb eyepiece. Hard to stop using it when A friend who owned it visited.kevinbarker@westlandhigh.school.nz

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
My first impression was how small the 27 panoptic really is. It still weighs 1.1 pound but it seems half the size of the 14mm UWA. The multicoatings are very nice, and the overall impression I got using this eyepiece with my 4" f/10 refractor was that the panoptic was much like a UO Konig, without the astigmatism at the edge. The light throughput, sharpness, and general magic feel was definately there. This is a super eyepiece for framing the Andromeda galaxy and it's two companions in my scope. It was an impulse buy for me, the price was right, and I don't regret it! No astigmatism by the way at this f/ratio, eye placement must be centered however for pinpoint stars throughout the fov.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
Another great lens with a comfortable, expansive view, good contrast, excellent sharpness, and reasonably light weight. This lens is a sleeper in the line. A real honey that needs more fanfare. I love it. Good for terrestial viewing as well. After much buying, selling and swapping, my current "using" line up consists of a 35mm Pan, a 27mm Pan, a 17mm Nagler T5, and a 12mm, 8mm and 5mm set of Radians, with a 1 1/2" TV 2x barlow reluctantly thrown in for good measure which I do not use. The progression of views thru these lens is excellent and very natural for a 880mm f/8.6 scope (TV102). The real stars are the two Pans and the 12mm Radian.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
An excellent 2" medium low power eyepiece for any scope that accepts 2" eyepieces! I chose this eyepiece over the 35mm Panoptic for my f/5 Newtonian because the 35mm had too large an exit pupil leaving my less then perfect skies a little washed out. The eyepiece is sharp edge-to-edge and the eye relief is just right. I have yet to notice pincushion distortion when viewing astronomical targets. It is noticable when looking as a daytime target that has straight lines in it. I believe this minor problem is blown way out of proportion. In any case you are buying top quality optics and excellent customer support. Unlike most other eyepieces Tele Vue eyepieces are 100% quality checked and if you drop one it can be repared by the manufacturer. Try that with a Meade SWA sometime!

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
This could be the Al's best. Great contrast and sharp across the full field. I have compared this with several other premium eyepieces in this fl and personally have to rate this one as best in class. Although the 35 Pan is often considered the best of the Pans, the 27 is sharper and much more comfortable to use. Excellent in every scope I have tried it in. A bit pricey but compared to the 26 Nagler, it's a real bargan.

TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
I have a f6 7" Mak-Newt , certified 1/8th wave .97 strehl. I just spent an entire evening running this EP through the ringer. Put stars in perfect focus in the center FOV and moved them to the edge. Every star as it moved to the field stop and out of view was in perfect focus. True pinpoint to the edge. I just sold my University Optics mk-70 25mm konig after receiving my Pan 27mm. The UO is a good EP, especially for the money, but the stars got comatic at the outside 25%. The Pan 27mm is truely a premium EP and its one that I will always keep. Tac sharp stars ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE, black background, huge FOV. And I could easily see all 3 galaxies in the same FOV when looking at Andomeda. And the brightnest and contrast!!! Seemed like a new scope. Another nice thing about this EP is its size. Very manageable and not too heavy. Smaller then my Nagler T4 12mm with almost the same space walk feeling. Highly recommended.

First light on my CGE14 last night - simply amazing. Very nice contrast making it excellent for DS0's. Brought out more surface detail on mars than any of my other ep's. Outstanding.
