Celestron NexStar Plossl 8mm
Wow I got this eyepeice from a friend in OKC and he threw it in with some other stuff for free. I'm glad he did. I thought it was just a Chineese cheapy but it does a nice job. No false color at all pretty good contrast and clear all the way to the edge of the FOV. When I veiw from an urban site the white front that the quite small lens is in is a distraction and the eye relief is not really there but the views are very accurate. I can't understand why an otherwise great eyepeice would have a white mounting front oh well doesn't matter at a dark sky site anyway.

After reading the other review posted here, I have concluded that mine must be defective and so I'll just describe it and refrain from voting. Its optical performance is, in a word (okay, 3 words), terrible, horrible, awful. The problem is light throughput- unbelievably dim, dim, dim. I've examined it several times and can't find any obvious flaws. It's labeled as multicoated- with what, charcoal? I suspect that some joker at the plant substituted a moon filter for one of the lens elements. The views I used to get through a $25 dept. store scope with a plastic fresnel lens were far brighter and better than anything I see through this in my Televue Ranger at 60X. I don't have a clue as to the 8mm's sharpness and contrast since everything is uniformly dark and murky. As to value, well I did use the eyeguard and one endcap on another eyepiece, and I like the shiny chrome barrel even though I have no practical use for it. I have several Celestron products imported from Asia (C102-HD scope and numerous pre-Nexstar plossls) and they are all of decent quality and perform at least adequately. I've read that there have been some quality control issues from time to time, so I guess I was overdue to get a bad one.

Good opitcs - but the eye relief is negligable. Very uncomfortable to use.
