Vixen Orthoscopic 9mm
(Are they still being made? Got mine from the grab box at an astro fair for one
third of the list price)

Not quite as legendary as the Pentax SMC Orthos, the Vixens (I also have a 6mm,
see there) enjoy a good reputation, and mine are no exception. In my 8" f/5
Dob, they are the e/p's of choice for tight doubles and for the planets. I
happen not to be bothered by the ridiculously low eye relief.

Crisp to the edge, no discernible aberrations of any kind. The only disadvantages
are the small TFOV, requiring significant tracking effort with the Dob, and the
need to refocus to compensate for the length of the 1.25"-0.965" adapter.

Vixen Orthoscopic 9mm
I can only agree with the other guy marveling about the Vixen Orthos.
A tiny lens with a ridiculus short eye relief, but optically bang on the spot for planets moon&sun and doubles. I find the 9mm even a little better optically than the 6mm (which really is good).
I use my Vixen Orthos (I even have a 12.5mm) on a Pentax 500/75 Apo, which is fairly critical on eye pieces. But the Pentax, fitted with a high quality Pantax prism diagonal, is really singing in unison with the Vixen.
I got my Vixen brand new for next to nothing.
Again, if you ever come across one, grab it !
