Canon 10x30 IS
Perfect even without image stabilization: sharp to the edge of the 60 field of view.
The stabilization allows to use the bino to its resolution limits.

Once you use these binocs, you will be hard pressed to go back to a non-stabilized pair. I have a very expensize Zeiss pair but these put them to shame.I bought them at about 60% of list.

Canon 10x30 IS
Very good ergonomics--just point and shoot. Pleasingly wide apparent field is sharp to near the edge. Will focus to meet nearly 10 diopters of myopia, yet eye relief works for glasses or without. Stabilizing more convenient than a tripod, but works as well (sometimes takes awhile to kick in). Doubt you could get this much value cheaper with other binocs and a tripod.
Image dimmer than larger apertures, but good coatings make them seem like most 10X50s. Large nebulae, like North American Nebula, dark nebs, and large diffuse star clusters particularly good.

Canon 10x30 IS
Excellent sharpness overall, edge sharpness good to excellent, lightweight, excellent contrast and color, excellent binoculars optically plus the advantage of stabilization providing detail for astro and birding and making it easy to read buoys for boating. Somehow, the FOV seems wider than it measures (less black area than expected around the view) - really pleasing view. Nits: eyecups hard to fold down and leave the ep's a little vulnerable since they're convex, no objective caps, and ep caps don't fit with the eyecups folded. (note: per Canon, ER is 14.5mm - proved adequate for thin glasses)

Views are clear to the edge. Dimmer than my 8x42s but what do you expect. The resolution gain from image stabilization more than compensates for this deficiency in any case. I prefer this one to the 12x36 hands down. The 15x45 is in a different category, but I still prefer the 10x30 for general use. If you can only have one pair if binoculars, this is the one I'd recommend.

Canon 10x30 IS
I really love these Canon binoculars. I sold my older 10x50's immediately after I got the Canons and now use these exclusively. They are great in every way. Light weight. Very comfortable and ergonomic to use. The optics are super sharp with very impressive light grasp for this size binocular -- must be the coatings -- and remarkable clear to the edge of the field. Most of all, the stabilization technology puts these in an entirely different class from unstablized binoculars due to the steadiness and resolution improvement. I enjoy using them much more than any other binoculars. In some ways, they are even better than a telescope. Could be the best $330 (after rebate) I ever spent.

I love these binoculars! Not even figuring in the image stabilization, the optics are sharp, well color corrected and have excellent edge sharpness. The price of these is "just right". As you go to the higher power models it jumps up precipitously. I've found that lithium batteries although more expensive really extend the stabilization life enormously, especially in cooler weather where alkalines fizz out fast. The eye refief, although only listed as 14mm is enough to give me a full FOV with my glasses on. A great value for the money.

Terrific optics with the "forgiving" image stabilization feature. Performance that Zeiss and the others cannot approach. The only set of binoculars that you will ever need.

Canon 10x30 IS
They are the only Canon IS Binoculars that iare light enough for extended use,
the bigger ones are all too heavy for much non-tripod use - but then why have
stabilised binos?
Also I prefer the analogue stabilisation in the 10x30s to the digital one in
the larger models (I spent a long time testing all their models before deciding
this, don't ask me why - it just feels better).
The star views are excellent, the stabilisation enables you to see deeper than
you should be able to for the apature (the light is less spread out so stars
are dots not slightly blurred dots), I'd choose them over my 7x50s every time.
People just look through them, press the button and say "wow".

I have Fujinon 16 X 70 FMT-SX mounted on a parallelogram, and Pentax DCF 9 X 63 Roofs, but these little Canons have become my favorite. Their optics blow away the Pentax despite their smaller aperture, and the image stabilization is just plain magical. Excellent for both sporting events, and the opera, but small enough not to be embarrassed to have them at a concert.

Canon 10x30 IS
Absolutely wonderful binoculars. For most astronomers, the appeal of binocular astronomy is the wide field, easy setup, and complete freedom. These binoculars deliver!

They have incredible optics, ultra flat field, 6 degrees wide view, long eye relief and are small enough to hand hold. At around $350 they are a bit more than you may normally want to spend on a 10x30 pair of binoculars but this is a case of you get what you pay for. The image stabalization works great and easily makes these the most practical casual astronomy tool you will ever use. Don't worry about the 30mm objective. The image stabalization and great optics make these binoculars perform like a 50-60mm pair.

Canon 10x30 IS
My earlier comments got erased, so here is a quick summary of my experience. I own about fourty pairs of binocs, and these get used the most with the possbile exception of the Canon 15x45IS and Optolyth 15x63 Royals, when I'm stargazing, and the Docter 8x22 aspherics, when I really need a compact light-weight package for backpacking etc.. These are definitely the Canon binoc to buy if you want something great for all around usage. They are slighly sharper than the 15x45ISs, and provide a nice, sharp and bright image -- surprisingly bright for a 3mm exit pupil glass. They are also much more reasonably priced than even the 12x36IS, which are also not as sharp, since they, like the 15x45ISs are a roofprism design. The only reason I give these a 9 instead of a 10 is that they are still a bit on the bulky and heavy side for a 10x30. They still need to figure out a way to make the stabilization system so light that they are only a few ounces heavier than unstabilized binocs. But clearly I'm being a rather tough grader demanding that so soon!

Sir,
I am going to purchase either the 10X30IS or the 12X36IS Canon binocluars. Trying to undersatnd if it is worth the added investment to go with the 12X30IS at 30% more light gathering capability over that of the 10X30IS. Your comments on Roof Prisms ( a negative) used in the 12X36IS leads me to think that the light gathering 30% gain is almost canceled out by the roof prisms and is not worth buying them. I do not know what the adavantage is in going to 12X36IS for such a small gain in light gathering and an added $200.00 expense. Appreciate you comments.

Canon 10x30 IS
I agree with all the positive comments. These are simply
wonderful!!! Optics are very, very sharp. The 3mm exit
pupil also minimizes effect of eye aberrations, and the
image stabilization compensates for the small 30mm aperture.
They really play like 50mm binos without the weight. I've
got about 20 pairs of binos; if I had to go with just two
it would be these and the Fujinon FMT-SX 16x70 on a bino mount.

Canon 10x30 IS
Lightweight and comfortable. Exceptionally bright and clear for 10x30s. They do not give you a headache and the detail the stabilisation reveals is remarkable.
The dioptre adjuster is pretty sticky and the scale is difficult to read. I would have given a 10 if it had been click stop adjustment. Batteries seem to last forever and rechargeable batteries work well.
For terrestrial viewing the short depth of field is mildly frustrating but the clarity and power of the binos compensate for this.
One year guarantee (as opposed to 30 years for some non-stabilised binos) suggests Canon are not sure the parts will be in working order for a lifetime. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had them for a few years to find out how they perform.
Moons of Jupiter look great. Star clusters are incredible. Light pollution too poor where I stay to see galaxies.

Just got them and I agree with everyone. Saw all four moons of jupiter the other night. I have an 8'' SCT but for casual star gazing they are great. The only thing I worry about is the 1 year warranty so if anyone has had a problem I would like to see if they will hold up for 30 years.
