Fujinon FMT-SX 10x70
Optically, these binocs are wonderful. My ONLY complaint is the long eye relief is hard for me to get used to using. Bright objects (for example, Venus and Jupiter) tend to show flare for me--though not for others who have used my binocs.

Clear to the edge. Very bright. Heavy, NEED mounting to be appreciated.
Folks with spectacles have no trouble using them due to great eye relief.
Never seriously considered astronomy with binoculars until I met up with
these.

These are the finest binoculars I've
ever used. Outstanding sharpness to
the very edge. They are heavy but the
views are great!

Fujinon FMT-SX 10x70
Sharp, very bright images. Good color correction, but have noticed some greenish fringing
around objects in certain high contrast situations. This might possibly be partly due to some internal reflections caused by light entering the quite large eyepieces?? Rather long
eye relief takes a little getting used to.

Simply awesome astro binoculars!
Flat-field optics reduce distortion
and astigmatism to virtually undetectable levels. Water and shock
resistance to military specs.

Owned since '95. Not quite perfect, but nearly so. Second-best edge definition I've ever seen among 10x70s; an older pair of Nikons just BARELY beat them. Extreme edge (~outer 1/4 degree?) shows minimal coma. Long eye-relief is no problem (glasses off; eyecups up).
Usually used on Bogen 3021/3047 combo.
And I LOVE the smell of that "new binocular vinyl" (which they still have).

Very clear to edge. Excellent brightness. Not too heavy for me. In fact, greater weight noticeably dampens hand tremor. Beautiful finish and feel. Have viewed 92 Messier objects with these binoculars.

The sharpest binos that I have ever looked through. Very pleasurable to use even with the AP refractor that I also use regularly.

Fujinon FMT-SX 10x70
Built like a tank. Extremely sharp and bright. A fantastic pair of binoculars. I find these Fujinons absolutely perfect for scanning the dark country skies where I live. I love the way the eyepieces stay at their settings (compared to the center-focusing ones I've used that constantly go out of adjustment from pressing against them...hence intermittently turning on a flashlight to readjust them). I am very impressed with the workmanship and all-around design of this fantastic optical instrument. Wish I had bought them sooner.

These binos are outstanding. The fit and finish are firstclass
and the images are not hyped as I had feared. A friend put
his Nikons up for sale after comparison. The wide highly corrected
field of view makes for a very pleasing "eye candy" view
and many NGC galaxies can be seen from a dark site. 4565 was easy to
note in terms of position angle as well as 4631. Both components
involved with M51 are visible as is M97.

Only caveat is that 10X leaves me wanting to see more detail. I hoped that
10X would be handholdable. It is but not easily @ 4.8 lbs. I ultimately went to a Parralelogram mount which is GREAT. But now I may opt for a pair more powerful such as FMT-SX 16X70 or Miyauchi 77mm's. But really, these 10X70's are all they have been cracked up to be. No real complaints at all. They are really great!

Fujinon FMT-SX 10x70
Very well built with good balance, so not too difficult to hand-hold. Views of star fields etc. are fantastic; bright, very sharp, involving - you only stop using them when your arms need to recover. There is, however, a little curvature towards the edge of the field and also some false colour / flare on very bright objects (eg Jupiter), but this does not really detract from the overall quality of the view.

I originally bought these binoculars as one of our prizes for the Deep South Regional Stargaze. As soon as I saw them and looked thru them I knew I had to have them so I went and ordered another pair. I echo the same positive comments of other reviewers, they merit a 10. The only additional comment would be it is a shame that Fujinon does not give us the option of a quick interchange between the 10x and 16x eyepieces on the 70mm binos. I guess they figure that some of us will buy both complete binoculars!

I've had the Miyauchi 20x77's and the Celestron 20x80's and in terms of
value/$$ the Fuji's easily out-class them. Simply the best in their
price range. There is a little color on bright objects and the field
edge isn't as good as some, but the views are sharp, bright and pleasing.
The waterproof milspec design means no worries about dew on damp nights.
Individual eye focus is a must for astro-viewing. I recently had a chance
view through the Nikon 10x70 astrolux and in my opinion, there wasn't enough difference to warrant spending the extra money on them. I love my Fuji's!

Absolutely superb definition and freedom from distortion. The coatings work exceptionally well in my very light-polluted local environment. The alignment is perfect -- viewing is relaxed, with no eyestrain. The interocular adjustment goes beyond the specified 74mm to about 77mm, which is very useful for users whose interpupillary distance is over 74mm. The only 10x binoculars I've seen that are optically as good are the Leica 10x50 BN's, although the Fujinons seem to be better than the Leicas at night (not too surprising, given the doubling of objective area from 50mm to 70mm). My one nit is that they are individual focus, but that's a tiny thing compared to the exemplary optical performance. The supplied neckstrap is first-rate, too.

Fujinon FMT-SX 10x70
Really need a mount to fully appreciate their quality - but in the absence of that I've found a washing line does a good job. If in doubt about their quality, compare them with a run of the mill pair of 7x50s (my previous binos). It's a whole new ball game - bright and sharp image. Great on 6.5mag Comet C/2001 A2 LINEAR, much better viewing experience than my 8" SCT. Focusing both eyepieces without a mount is a bit of a chore.

The Fuji 7x50s are also superb - and much easier on the arms.
