Ascend Acoustics CBM-170
Clear sounding, radiused corners, great build quality. Neutral, natural sound that adds litte or nothing to recorded sound. Not bright, tight bass, mids are excellent.

Definitely needs to break in, then it exhibits its best qualities, so give it many hours of play b4 you really judge these little jewels.

Customer service is top notch, with money-back guarantee, but don't worry, you won't let them go!

A great speaker for a HT setup. Crisp, clear sound. The system really shines when paired with the Hsu subwoofer. Two things I don't like: 1. They're rear ported, so they can be mounted flush against a wall (you need at least a 6" clearance). 2. As a semi-pro audio engineer, I use them as a second pair of reference speakers, while being clear and detailed, periods of listening at loud levels quickly lead to listener fatigue. On the plus side, Ascend's customer service it top notch and these speakers are a great value. For hard core music listeners (at extended time, high volume) I wouldn't recommend them (you shouldn't be doing that anyway!), but I'd recommend them 100% for a home theatre and for music listening at a moderate level.

had been using a set of klipsch SB-3 bookshelf speakers with an hsu sub. they have a very foward sound in the upper range,decent bass output for an 8" driver. But i knew the midrange was off somehow.I decided to give the cbm-170 a try being highly rated & am SO GLAD i did! Gone are those sharp ssss sounds, the crash of cymbals{my least favorite sound in most music-over used} are smoothed out. The vital midrange-voices are the clearest cleanest smoothest i have heard. Moved the klipsch to the patio where there better suited. Now, if only ascend acoustics would make a 36" tv. i would order one tonight... mark

The best bang for the buck deal around. Detailed, realistic vocals, smooth midrange and treble, adequate bass. Integrates smoothly with the Hsu VTF-2 sub. "Stealth mode" black vinyl enclosures make the speakers disappear visually in a room.

The Ascend CBM 170 speakers are some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard at any price. Not stunning to look at but certainly not ugly either. Kind of like a Maserati that looks like a Camry.

I have these on top of some 30-year old bic floorstand speakers. Those BIC's are never on, but guests are always asking how an old speaker could sound so good! When I tell them that only the little box on top is on, jaws drop.
