Onkyo TX-DS777
I just bought the 777 and am very hapy with it. I compared it to Denon 3300 the Rotel 965 as well as looked at pioneer elite, Yahama, Sony ES and Nad. You can get one for between $800-$950.

I am very pleased,. This has everything with plenty of power tons of I/O and a good upgrade path. With DTS, Dolby Pro-logic, Dolby Digital (AC-3) and THX select, what more could you want.

Easy to set up but I need a class on how to use the remote, but at least they don't look like Ice cream cones anymore and are comfortable in the hand.

I have owned 4 onkyo recievers and each time I come back for the quality and great warm and distinct sound.

A must have!

Onkyo TX-DS777
I have been a big Sony man in the past, but the sales person sold me on trying the Onkyo DS777. It has been some time since i bought a new receiver, so the technology was really new to me. It took me a while to set it up, but once i did, it was definitely worth the grand that i paid for it. The sound was a definite upgrade from the analog receiver that i had before. My wife, who i thought would kill me for making the purchase, even agreed that the sound was much better and became an instant fan. The Onkyo is not as fancy as the Sony, but the quaility is much better. If you are not up to date with the new digital technology as i was, set up could require some research, especially if you are connecting your TV, VCR, DVD and satelite. I have had it for two weeks now and each day i find out something new. I have not tried out all the features, but am working on it. If you are looking to build a home theater center, the DS777 is a good way to start.

Onkyo TX-DS777
This is a great unit! It allows me to pre out to a MX-200 and back in to the amp to drive my front speakers off the receiver receiving only the signal above 50 Hz. It has plenty of clean power, has room for new technology, a Wonderful remote and on screen help and sounds great. I run two Jamo 7.7 s in front, two PSB M6x1 for the rear, Use a M&K MX200 off the front pre-out and a PSB 3i for the sub-out LFE signal. I have a Jamo 160 for my center speaker. The DVD is a Philips 855 and the CD player is NAD. I looked at the Denon 3300, but found it didn't offer the features that this Onkyo has even though it sounded just as good. The Denon was $800 plus sales tax locally and the Onkyo DS-777 cost $750 delivered from Sound City (rec'd in four days) mail order. Buy it, it is a great value.

Onkyo TX-DS777
As always, Onkyo offers consistant performance and high quality components for the price. I am Onkyo biased. This is my second receiver; first one purchased 11 years ago. Technology has come a long way in 11 years. I am extremely satisified. I listen to every type of music and the unit performs well for classical to heavy metal. Highly recommended!

Onkyo TX-DS777
I've owned Onkyo products for over 10 years, and was always thrilled. So when I decided to upgrade to DD/DTS, I naturally went with Onkyo. I had read reviews on AudioReview.com concerning the first production run of this receiver, which was recalled, and problems of hum and hiss in subsequent production runs (TXDS 777-B). I ordered one from Sound City in NJ after being assured that if I had a problem I could return it. Well, for a week, it was flawless. There was some hiss at high gain settings, but it was not audible with program material, and no worse than the Onkyo DPL receiver it replaced. The sound was near holographic, powerful, clean and deep, without any harshness or crosstalk. Then, about a week into owning it, I noticed a hum from the center channel. It was static, independant of the volume setting, and audible from my listening position on quiet passages. It would click on & off as I moved the volume setting from "min" to "1". I tried disconnecting each component to identify the source. In the end, it was the sub-out jack. When nothing was connected to the sub-out jack, there was no hum. I tried replacing the cable with Monster sub cable, I tried a different powered sub, got the same results. Well for the price I paid I couldn't live with this hum, and I didn't want to start with warranty repairs or replacements, so I exchanged it for a Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX (I'll vote on that soon). I now have no hum problem. It's a real shame Onkyo has this problem - I really wanted the TXDS-777 and would still prefer it if it didn't have the hum problem. It's feature-packed, built solid and sounds marvelous (except for the hum). I am giving it a "4" since this is obviously a design flaw in an otherwise extraordinary product. I bet one day I'll own an Onkyo receiver again. BTW, Sound City was great - see my vote on this forum site for them. Just be careful to buy this unit from an authorized dealer with a good return policy (like Sound City).

Onkyo TX-DS777
Perfect, does exactly what I wanted out of an amp. The only downside is that when pressing the test-tone button on the remote it changes the volume to 65db which is a little loud at around 1am.

The amp is beautifully built, clean looking, supports every audio format currently available to the home market and has a remote that has been programmed to replace the other 7 remotes in the home.

Now for the VAF speakers.

Onkyo TX-DS777
The Onkyo TX-DS777 so far has been performing quite astonishing. There were no problems with the set up or connections. The audio quality has been excellent, there were no noticeable distortion/clipping. The only feature that I can't seem to find or figure out is the cooling fan/mechanism. The older Onkyo receivers' cooling fans were more obvious and loud. Otherwise...flawless!

Onkyo TX-DS777
Simply the best A/V receiver I have owned... Coupled with Onkyo's THX certified HTS2 speaker set, it produces an outstanding soundfield which rivals most upscale movie theatres for clarity and presence. Unfortunately, the Onkyo speakers don't seem to be available in the US; I got mine in Asia.

Onkyo TX-DS777
great reciever. no hiss or humm. one minor problem is that when you turn the subwoofer on. the reciever cuts bass to the front main speakers. i like the bass that my mains produce, & dont like losing it because i choose to add a sub. other than that, it's a great reciever.
