Technics SA-DX930
I love the performance of this unit, and for my money I think it is as effective
as some others which sell for much more $$$.
Besides, I do have to balance the $$$ I spend on my home theatre with other
expenses that I have to meet. Furthermore, I already have some 100w speakers,
the Engery Take 5 with a sub ES-8, and I couldn't go for some other either
preams or receivers which deliver 100+w per channel or else I would have had to
upgrade my speakers too.

I am hear to say that after using the Sony STR-DE925 for 6 months I was more then happy to sell it to a friend for 180.00 less then what I paid, just to get rid of it. Even my wife noticed a difference while watching a DVD movie and listening to it on the Technics. I would give it a 10 if it had a better remote..............

Technics SA-DX930
Simply put: The best reciever for your money. With Dolby Digital, and DTS, you know that you are current with the times. And with 500 watts total, you know you've got plenty of power. This is a nice amp, with tons of power. My only complaint is the remote, like others, and, the case does get hot, but, if you turn the volume up about 1/3 of the way, (which is wall rattling with a CW 15" sub), then the case cools down rather quickly.
Great amp for the price, no major complaints here, I give it a 10.

I love the unit but it only lasts one month. I bought one and it cut out after only one month. I returned it and got a new one. One month later....the same thing. I don't recomend this one until they get the relibility up.

So far I like it. Very good overall, lots of nice features. Technics is rated #1 by Consumer Reports. I agree. 9 because of the hot case.

Technics SA-DX930
I bought my SA-DX930 in Cape Town, South Africa.
My receiver does not seem to be the same as the one that you are describing here, although it has the SA-DX930 label on the receiver and the box.
My receiver does not have the sound fields like HALL or DISCO to choose from, but it has an RDS tuner.

My output ratings is as follows and are all rated at 6 ohms:
------------------------------------------------------------
2x 100 Watts in 6 ohm speakers with DIN 1 khz (THD 1 %)
2x 80 Watts in 6 ohm speakers with 20 Hz - 20 khz continuos power
0.05% total harmonic distortion with 20 Hz - 20 khz continuos power
0.03% distortion at half power at 1khz
In dolby pro logic:
------------------
Front 85W (6 ohm)
Centre 85W (6 ohm)
Surround 85W (6 ohm)

I also noticed on the box that this receiver was assembled in Malaysia
and not Japan like all my other Technics equipment.

Please let me know what these ratings are in your user manuals.
Please also check where your receivers was assembled.

I just hope that Technics South Africa has not gone cheap.

Please respond for everyone's sake.

Thanks

My receiver has the same problems and solutions with the box running hot.
I have a Panasonic A160 DVD player and the remote works well on the DVD player.
I will definitely recomend the equipment, but I am sad to say that I WILL look for another brand if Technics sell the same model with different output ratings.
How the hell are their clients suppose to know what they are buying if this is the case.

Any comments and futher information regarding this welcome.

Thank you
Freddie Strauss

Technics SA-DX930
It is vey powerful I bought a an onkyo 670 recetly and it sound only a bit better than sa dx 930 it has a computer type power supply with a poweful fan
which activates automaticly when needed like a cars and if it gets really hot it shuts down itself automatically so need to worry about its realibility and it is the best for the money .

Technics SA-DX930
I have just purchased the UK version of this receiver.
The intention was to use my computer DVD (Dxr3)with this amp.
For anyone else about to do the same: BEWARE!
This receiver only accepts dolby AC-3 input in OPTICAL form.
The computer DVD card provides an ELECTRONIC output only.
The daft thing is that I now have to buy a separate Digital / optical converter.
The end result is more expense and totally unnecessary signal processing as
the first thing the receiver does with its optical input is convert it into
an electrical input!
For the sake of saving a few pence, Technics have caused me considerable expense

Technics SA-DX930
I'm not too sure about the UK Version. But if the UK version is the same as the Japan version. Then it should be able to accept the AC-3 through the Coaxial input. AC-3 and DTS. You have to set it to Digital Input on DVD and set the mode to surround.

LOVE IT!

Technics SA-DX930
I purchased this receiver only to exchange it four times and am on my 3rd repair. I was a devout Technics fan until buying this receiver, it gets hot and burns out. Back to the store! I do not recommend putting this unit in an entertainment center. I love the sound and the features, but it's just not worth the headache. I guess I will go back to my SA-EX800 which worked FLAWLESSLY. :-( Amzn4me@aol.com

Technics SA-DX930
First unit failed after 3 weeks. Replacement unit has failed completely twice, with various intermittent peculiarities usually correctable by reset or power off/on. Runs too hot. Sound only fair, I think, with the effects (hall, club, etc.) useless. Panasonic pretends that the unit has no problems when confronted with this.

Technics SA-DX930
I purchased this receiver seven months ago and it has been a real work horse for me. I am well aware of the heat problem and have done much research on it....the bottom line is that it is designed to run warm and the components are of a very high quality that are normally used in receivers costing several hundred dollars more. I would reccomend that you place the unit in the open and or on top of your audi rack in order to maximize air flow around and on top of the unit. Placing it in a sealed audio cabinet will restrict the air flow that this unit requires. I have used this unit everyday at high volumes at it simply delivers on all fronts....For the price and ease of set up coupled with it's very good specs....it's a real winner !!! In this price range to find a receiver with Dolby Digital and DTS and 100 watts of power to all six channels is very rare. I will also tell you that I am running a self powered sub-woofer that reduces some of the power demand from the receiver. Foe some of those people who experienced some problems with over heating....the technicians at Technics tell me that they did in fact experience some early problems with electronic parts that has now been solutioned. I can't say enough about this receiver and how good and clean the sound is...you will have to just buy one and see for your self....Thanks to Technics for making a receiver that is both affordable and of fine quality for it's price range.

Technics SA-DX930
i had to return one. It burnt out and actually was acting really weird at the end. (tuner audio coming out of dvd and tape as well as tv.) Panasonic people were COMPLETE asses about it. Just want you to go through the motions of their repair regime. I refused and went back to the store and bitched until they replaced it, which they had been saying they couldn't do because they wouldn't get credit from Panasonic. Could tell that they all knew that there were many lemons in those boxes but they all tried to act like I was the first customer with a return.
All that said, I LOVE this unit!!! I've had a good one for about four months now and I work it out! it runs a bit warm (Keep it on top of an open shelf, lots of air flow)but it sounds great, i'm a sound profesional, I record for film. Trust me, for the money, this box is a miracle! Crisp, clean, quiet, powerful reproduction. That's the bottom line at any price and this sounds like audiophile gear. The remotes a bit flaky, true but only a little. (rewind might take a few tries) but the sound is what I'm here for and for that money, frankly it feels like somebody is making a mistake. A powered sub will make it run a bit cooler, but actually the thing is built to run hot. I think they cheaped on production labor or inspection and the soldering is funky on a lot of them; I don't think the heat is the issue, personally. other cons? No s-vid connects (should have at least 2, I go direct, though) and my peeve-- NO LIGHT ON THE VOLUME KNOB TO LET YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS IN THE DARK!! Otherwise, i say, shop at a nearby place with a liberal return policy, get an extended warranty, and keep bringing em' back till you get a good one! It's worth it! (also, you get bargaining power from the dealer for all your hassle, get a good price on something else or maybe a free dvd or something for your trouble.

Technics SA-DX930
This receiver was the first home-cinema receiver that I purchased.
As a complete "newbie" I had no idea how good or bad this unit was until I decided to buy a new one......
My reasons for replacing this unit was that it is good but not good enough.
A few minus in the protocol goes to:
* Not possible to set the front speakers up individually
* No S-VIDEO input
* No on-screen configuration
* 2 repairs in one year

As I went looking for a new receiver that could make my THX speakers worth their money I ran into alot of problems.
The DX930 comes with on-board DTS, 5.1-in, receiver, the list goes on and on but when looking at the specifications on other FAR more expensive units they always lacked features that was included in the DX930. "This is kinda weird" I thought, but the longer I went looking for a new receiver the more I realized what an excellent purchase I hade made when buying the DX930!
The strenght in this unit is the huge bunch of functions and quality you get for every dollar spent.
If money is an issue when looking for a receiver (duh....), this is the one I would recommend.
In order to benefit from a "better" unit you would have to have some serious demands and a big wallet. This is definitely a unit that will make every home-cinema sound at its best!

excellent everything as long as the front speakers are 4ohm and everything else is 8ohm.....also a cooling fan on top might help if you don't have sufficient clearance for the top heat vent......very amazing for the money
