Celestron Firstscope 80 AZ
Very adequate beginner's scope. Solar system objects clear and bright. Saturn's rings, divisions clearly visible, albeit somewhat small and fairly fuzzy. Andromeda galaxy visible, but faint and small. Very good terrestrial capabilities, recommend 45 degree corrected-image prism. Not a steal at the price, but not a rip-off.

This I reckon is the Vixen Custom 80 - you Americans always like to confuse the issue! Build quality is far beyound that of Celestron or Meade, and is in fact superior to my 8" SCT. Although finder is fairly small, it too is extrememly well fabricated and a delight to use. Ditto for the focuser. Visually its a pleasing scope, but don't count on using much more than 150x. Also supplied with 24mm eyepieces. I bought an expanding bush and use it with the LVs and Ultimas etc. A very portably scope that knocks the socks off some of the garbage littering astronomy shop windows.

Our local club owns a Celestron Firstscope 80, which is in our
rental program (we rent out this scope and a few others to the
membership at discount prices). I have only used this scope
a few times. I recall one evening looking at Jupiter and I was
amazed at the detail that was visible.

Being use to a 8"SCT and a 12.5" reflector, I am really impressed
with the optical quality of this scope. Even at 225x the images
were excellent !!

We were also able to split Epsilon Lira with no problems.

One evening,we did a side by side comparison with a 90mm "Skywatcher"
telescope, and everyone present agreed that the images
were much better in the Celestron, especially at higher powers.

Excellent images, unbeatable price, good value.
As a basic beginners scope, it is highly recommended !!!
I give it a 9 out of 10.
