Televue Pronto
For it's aperture and intended uses, this scope leaves little to be desired. I'm impressed with the quality of manufacture and the quality of the views through this scope. Love it.

Your table says the Pronto is a plain non-achromatic refractor. In fact, it is better than the usual achromat. It is sometimes called a semi-apochromat.

An excellent scope optically; only the Takahasis and the Brandon are better in this size. Mechanically it's the best built of any small scope.

This scope is excellent. It is a truly portable scope with wonderful optics (truly apochromatic would be better but I don't miss it). Built like a tank. The 480mm focal length is great for wide field viewing. My 22mm Panoptic gives me a true field of 3.17 degrees. With a 35mm Panoptic you get 4.96 degrees.

New Scope = Cloudy Skies so my per view price is still over $150 but has been worth it. I am a travelling sales rep and it packs perfectly and easily. Am loking forward to working way north of Montreal for a week to give the Pronto its first long shift.

I cannot imagine an easier to use, more portable package. Good (if expensive) choice for a beginner.

Televue Pronto
I love it. It is portability personified. Everything about it seems very well thought out and, if anything, it's over-engineered. It obviously is limited by aperture, but the excellent contrast helps it reveal detail that some moderately larger scopes may not. Its pinpoint star images and short focal length make widefield views a joy and yet it doesn't mind if you throw some magnification at it either, if the seeing is up to it. Mounted on the Upswing mount it's a delight to cruise around the sky. I really get the sense from the build quality that my grandchildren will end up fighting over it.

Evey now and then you find something of true value. For astronomy the Pronto is it. Use it with a 19mm Panoptic and a 2.5x Barlow and your set.

There is some color in the optics when viewing venus or other bright objects but at the time the pronto was/is a out standing scope in it's class

I could not be happier with my PRONTO, it is built like no other small refractor in its class. This telescope looks and feels fantastic! For its size you cannot buy a better scope, the optics are excellent and its portability is very good.

Televue Pronto
Incredible optics(plenty oohs! and aahs! in that department). It's built like a Sherman tank and beautifully made. It can be mounted on the telepod and ready to observe through in less five minutes. I highly recommend the Tele-Vue qwik-point
finder, 7mm nagler with 2x barlow, and a #58 green filter for the moon. With that eyepiece and barlow (137x) I can routinely split the "Double-Double" and pick amazing detail out of the moon and planets. Don't let this scope's 70mm
aperture fool you. This scope is capable of showing more detail under less than ideal conditions than bigger 8" scopes can. Which means you'll spend more time
observing instead of waiting for those perfect seeing conditions needed for larger telescopes.

The Pronto has been a real jewel. Diffraction rings are near perfect and has been excellent at low power with the 35mm Panoptic (The Veil was great). Some false colour can be seen on brighter opjects but is not as annoying as the standard achromat. The real test was at 600x. It seems impossible but the Pronto was able to reach focus on a good night of seeing. Mechanically it's a little overbuilt but that's why I bought it. Great for seasoned vets and beginners can't go wrong.

Televue Pronto
After several months of proud ownership, I can honestly say that this
telescope has been an absolute pleasure to own and use. I have used this
telescope more in last few months than I ever used my old telescope in the
last few years. I am now a firm believer in the belief that the best telescopes
are the ones you actually use.

I would like to make a comment on the false color seen on very bright objects ,such as venus and the limb of the moon, with this telescope. Yes
there is some false color, but this must be expected. This telescope is not
a true "apo" ,nor does Tele-Vue advertise it to be a true "apo". It is advertised as a "semi-apo" meaning that the false color seen with this
telescope is less than the amount you would see with a "achromatic" refractor
of the same aperture. I suppose some people must have thought the use of ED
glass in the objective meant it was a apochromatic telescope.
