Criterion RV-8 Dynascope
What a fantastic scope this was! I got mine in 1973 (when I was 12 years old). It remained my primary scope until 1999 when I moved up to a 12" LX200. The RV-8 is just collecting dust now, but I am too emotionally attached to it to be able to part with it yet.

Mine is f/7.740 (that number is engraved on the back of the mirror). From reading comments in the Dynascope egroup, it appears that others were f/8, f/7.5, and maybe even f/7.

The scope produces great images. I have not seen an 8" that beats it. The finder is also excellent (beats the **** out of the one that came with my new LX200). The mount is reasonably stable (but nowhere near as rock solid as the LX200). The clock drive was always a bit touchy. It always seemed that when viewing near the equator, the moment of inertia of the scope would be just a bit to much; so the drive would not have quite enough power to keep the scope moving.

I love my Dyna-8. I pesonally picked up the last one from the East Hartford
office of Criterion. I will be using it this summer. Saw my first comet - Iras-Araki-Alcott. '84?

Had the mirror resurfaced once. Not for sale!

Superb optics! Don't hesitate to lay some jack on the barrel if you can find one. I've owned many a telescope since getting into the astro-hobby in the early '70s, from high-end APOs, large Dobs, CATs from 8" to 14", to a few very pricey Maks. While others have come and gone, the RV-8 remains. An outstanding telescope!
