Takahashi FC-100
The most overachieving telescope I have ever looked through. Legendary Takahashi quality and contrast in a telescope that I dont go anywhere without. I keep it on a Gibralter mount and the whole package is wonderful. Perfect startest. Stars snap into focus. Focuser is second to none. Fit and finish is of utmost quality. A scope you will reach for whenever you observe. Flourite doublet cools down in no time at all. From a dark site, I have seen detail in M1, 5 stars in the trapezium, and detail in M33. Planets show detail that is generally imperceptable in scopes twice the aperture. I always take this scope out even when I am observing with my larger scopes because I just love the perfect images I see in it. If you can find one, give it serious consideration.

Sound mechanics, excellent optics and reasonable package size make it a hard act to follow. Star tests show textbook diffraction pattern with no discernible color even on brighter objects. Drop on a 35 Panoptic and you'll never go back... The little scope that could and does.

Takahashi FC-100
Although no longer produced, these fine instruments appear on the market from time to time. The FC-100 has been rated best in class by many critical observers and rightfully so.
I have not been able to detect any false color that I can attribute to the FC-100 optics. The construction of the unit is first rate, and the 2.7 in focuser is substantial and as smooth as it gets. Detail and contrast is outstanding allowing exceptional views of fine details in Jupiter and Saturn.
Like many of the "classic" scopes in the market this scope has a special optical "character" that can only be appreciated when you have had the opportunity to view with it. If you have an opportunity to view with an FC-100 or better yet buy one.....do so. You will be impressed.

Takahashi FC-100
The Takahashi FC-100 is destined to be a classic. This scope is built like a tank with outstanding optics. Like many others, I cannot detect any in focus false color in my sample. Star test is the best I have ever seen. The 2.7in focuser although substantial in both construction and weight is very smooth and sure. The tube is of heavy construction with an excellent series of baffles. Pinpoint star images with outstanding contrast. Planetary details just seem to "be there". The FC-100 was replaced by the FS-102 and is only available in the secondary market. If you have an opportunity to try (or buy) one check it out. An outstanding performer often available at very reasonable prices (for a 4 in APO).

I wanted an FC-100 since my first view through on 7 or 8 years ago. When I found one used I bought it and have had the opportunity to use this scope for well over a year. It is big and heavy for a 4 inch scope, but the construction is one of the strong points. Optically it is the best refractor I have ever looked through and that includes a very good number of top name APO refractors. When it snaps into focus the images are crisp and show a great deal of contrast. Open clusters and even the brighter globulars resolve into pinpoint dots. I have never detected a trace of false color when in focus with this scope. Saturn appears to be 3-D. I have compared it with the FS-102 and feel that the FC has a slight edge in overall performance. (The 102 is no slouch).

Takahashi FC-100
superb optics very sharp no false colour. Shows amazing detail on planets and renders the finest views of deep sky objects for its aperture.

A joy to use and a lovely smooth focuser my version is 1989/90#9069.

Overall a work of art. Very interesting how red stars are so vivid and everything is so pinpoint sharp.

I have a 2021 fc-100DZ. An outstanding wee telescope with perfect optics and great mechanics.
Absolutely no false colour and a perfect star test. High contrast and quite compact. Star images are pinpoint and images as good as the aperture can deliver. My brother has an excellent 1990 Tak fc-100 which is also outstanding. fc-100's are stunning telescopes, expensive but you can expect top notch performance.
