TeleVue 101
The optics are outstanding for both low and high power viewing. Virtually no detectable color on bright objects in focus. Jupiter and Saturn at 180x were very sharp showing significant detail for a 4" scope. Deep sky is impressive, espically on the Messier objects. Also, was able to id severl magnitude 12 galaxies. The Gibraltar altaz mount is stable and vibration free in apprx 2 sec. Vibration dampening pads improve averall performance. The scope is very easy to set-up and use, therefore gets used a lot.

The TV-101 I have preforms slightly better than theoretical limits when the seeing allows. The more I use this scope, the more I enjoy using it. It provides great color-free views from wide-field (over 5 degrees with the 31mm Nagler Type V) to high-power (337x) with short cool-down times and almost no maintenance. The Gibraltar mount is plenty stable even at high power if you use a set of vibration suppression pads and the alt-az head can be quickly fine-tuned to accommodate different size/weight eyepieces. This scope is just plain fun to use!

Unbelievable views with the 101 and a Nagler 31mm. Wide, crisp, transparent. The objects just pop out. Great scope.

For Japanese
It is the telescope which you dreamed of at the time of a child.

Great telescope. Well build and with great optics. However, not in the same class as Astro-physics Traveler, Pentax 105mm, Takahashi FSQ-106 or Zeiss 100mm (optically as well as Overall fit and finish) but more like Vixen Fluorite.

Best scope I have ever owned. Flawless views (especially wide field). What makes it the BEST I have ever owned? It gets used the most because it is portable, simple, and needs little or no cool down time. For visual stargazing, this scope is it. jeffz@voyager.net

The 101 has exceeded my expectations. The star tests are near perfect. It sets up in 2 minutes and the Gibraltar lives up to its name; it is rock solid. The contrast and resolution are outstanding; you can see objects that are fainter than what the textbooks will tell you are possible in a 4 inch scope.

I OWN A TV 101 THAT I HAVE MOUNTED ON A LOSMANDY GM - 8 MOUNT. THE TELESCOPE HAS
A SHARP WIDE FIELD VIEW COMBINED WITH THE RIGHT EYEPIECE THAT PROVIDES GREAT VIEWS.I WAS A FORMER 8" SCT OWNER NOW SINCE I HAVE THE TV 101 I NEVER USE THE 8"
ANYMORE, THE VIEW IS THAT MUCH BETTER.I HAD ONE MINOR HARDWARE PROBLEM WITH THE
101 SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT AND THE TV CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF WAS REALLY HELPFUL
AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM TO MY LIKING.
I HAVE VIEWED OBJECTS THROUGH ASTROPHYSICS TELESCOPES AND WHEN COMPARED TO TV THEY DO HAVE A SLIGHT EDGE.OVERALL THIS IS A WELL ENGINEERED AND WELL BUILT TELESCOPE, WITH FANTASTIC OPTICS.

A joy to own and use. Some of the best planetary views I've ever seen in a scope of this aperture. On Jupiter, GRS, transits, shadows are all crisp and clear. Saturn's cassini division with ease. Splits many close double cleanly and displays great naturual star colours with no image aberrations of false colour.

Great scope. Keep mine setup inside the back door. Easy to carry outside in one unit. Star test shows very small flaws. Great construction and fit/finish. Every time I get aperature fever I come back to the 101. Great planetary and lunar scope. It's a keeper!

Exquisite wide field views with no discernable aberrations. Very portable and great for planetary or deep sky photography. I acquired one to complement an 8 inch SC and ended up using it almost exclusively. Dollar per inch it is hard to imagine a better value apo

A great all around scope. My sample shows NO false color and a textbook star test. It produces contrasty, razor sharp wide field and high power views. I always get a line of people and "oohs" and "ahhs" during public star parties. I have logged over 800 hours of observing with this scope in two years and the views continue to amaze me!

Used one a bit at TSP '01. Great deep sky views of Omega Centauri, M51, etc. I was on order for one, but they discontinued them. I am now thinking of buying a TV102. I cannot really rate this telescope (TV 101) accurately based on one brief encounter. A bit costly. Other Possibilities-For lower you might consider a Tak FS102 (longer focal length), TMB 105/650 ($3200 and heavy, but in possibly the best built OTA you can buy, also available in lighter, cheaper Vixen tube), Tv NP101 ($3400), AP Traveler (infamous waiting list), Tak FSQ (excellent performance from what I've heard, but you have to buy accessory for 2" capability) The now discontinued TV101 is highly recommended!

Great scope, views are clear and sharp.
At star parties it stands up with the big boys. I've used it for two years and I'm still pleased with it.

This Scope when bought with the package is as good as it gets in a 4 inch scope. I have split double stars below the Dawes limit with it cleanly. Have obtainedvery good detail levels on the planets with this scope. In the humid midwest it seems to typically to like 125 to 220 X on the planets, perhaps in a dry climate that would increase to 250 X or better. Had one night were 297X on Jupitor worked well, but those nights are few and far apart here.

The TV102 is mounted on a GP5 mount which seems to work well with it, though at higher powers it take longer to settle down.

At first I thought the cost of this scope was high, but when you see the quality of all its componets and workmanship it becomes apparent this one is one you will pass on to your children or grandchildren.
Clear Skies,
Big Al

I bought one of these scopes to image with using my Canon 6D. TV states that with their large field corrector, the field should be good throughout a full 35mm frame. Not true and least for me. The images suffered from distorted stars shapes, especially on the left side of the image. I sent the scope back to TV and they just made it worse. Never again.
