Had this scope for about 1.5 years and it's "perfect." I use the A-P 900
mount and it's like a rock. I can't find a thing to complain about!

Awesome views, beautiful machining, short and light for the aperture. Planetary views through this scope with the AP/Baader/Zeiss binoviewer and Zeiss Abbe orthos have to be seen to be appreciated.

Exquisite images of planets (Mars, Jupiter, & Saturn), & star clusters; text book stellar diffraction patterns; outstanding resolution, especially on double stars, 0.7 sec. of arc performance; outstanding rack and pinion focuser; AP 900 equatorial mount is also outstanding in everyway.

Superb scope, extremely stable on an AP 900 goto mount. With the AP/Zeiss/Baader binocular viewer, AP barlow and Zeiss Abbe Orthos the planetary performance is breathtaking. I only wish I had the 180 f/7. :-)

I have had this scope and the 600E mount for almost three years now. Wonderful telescope! Planetary views using the TeleVue Binovue are superb. Star images limited only by atomsphere. This is a scope that becomes very personal!

The scope rules!

600E with a pier for light photo, and CCD.

600E with tripod for visual.

900 for heavy photo.

Get the 4" if you dare, it's awesome

Star test is perfect, brightness is exceptional. Absolutely no
chromatic aberration. Soaks up magnification to atmospheric limits.
Excellent portability. Must be experienced to be appreciated.

my first scope was a 3.5" mak and i still enjoy using it for a quick night out. it was almost two years after the purchase of my first scope when i would finally get to attend my first star party. up to that point in time my only experience under the stars was with my little 3.5" mak. i was hungry for something more and i wanted my next scope to be something that could keep me happy for a lifetime. i had been reading everything i could get my hnds on about the many different types of scopes, refractor, reflector, sct', but what should i buy? i listened to those who advised me to look before you buy. so this star party was something i was really looking forward to. finally that night came, i was finally going to see all those wonderful views with all the many different types of scopes i had only read about. as i worked my way from scope to scope i was becoming increasingly dissapointed with what i was seeing. where were the spectacular views????? i felt like i was looking through a yellow-green haze with the sct's, contrast was just terrible. reflectors were ok but i still expected more. i looked through a few small achromatic refractors and thought maybe i will just stick with my little mak. then i noticed a larger refractor on a hill away from the other scopes, so i walked over to take a look. my first view through the 6" AP was the double cluster in perseus, WOW!!!!!!!! now this is what i expected!!! pitch black sky with pin point star images across the field of view. globular clusters were stunning, i did not want to take my eye away from the eyepiece. that night i looked through many different scopes from 3" to 20" dobs and nothing has stayed with my memory like the views through the 6" AP. since then i have been patiently waiting (one and a half years now) on AP'S waiting list for one of the smaller scopes (i cannot afford the 6"). i think my wifes respones sums it up best when she looked through the scope for the first time, OH MY GOSH!!! THATS AWSOME!!!

Killer scope in every respect. Great planetary and binary star views at 500x or more (in perfect seeing, anyway). Pinpoint star images, perfect star test. Awesome for astrophotography, especially with 4" focuser.

Resolution and contrast are stunning. Have owned several other APOs and have had the opportunity to try several premier Dobs through 16". This scope beats them all!

The scope is a "WOW"
Worth the wait and every penny.
Built like a tank.
Went from a Tak to this scope, didn't think the focuser would match up against the Tak.
Surpasses it and then some.
I use mine in the San Fernando Valley in Ca. where seeing conditions, light pollution and air quality, are a problem.
The AP 155 cuts through it all like a lazer and simply put, gives views that are outstanding.
Amazed at the small size of this scope also.

My A-P arrived in August 1999. This is a beautiful instrument and I can't imagine a more perfect refractor. Magnification extremes run from 34x (Nagler 31) to 362x (Nagler 3-6). On precious few occasions when high magnification is possible on Jupiter and Saturn, the views are truly memorable. This scope also does a great job on Clusters and Double Stars. I'm not much of a deep sky buff.

When you own have an Astro-Physics refractor, you probably didn't want something else. I admire the Christen's resolve in building it their way. I admire the resolve of those that wait for their A-P.

what a terrific 6 inch scope. I have had some memorable looks at the moon- the detail in the craters really popped out at you. the optics were tack sharp.
On Vega, the star showed as a pure white/blue as did the star test.
The OTA is slim, relatively lightweight- everything is designed for ease of use.I find myself eager to set up and get going on this scope.
I would recommend this scope to the exacting observer- as mainly a visual hobbyist, I am confident in the optical quality and concentrate on the view, and not the optics.

This is the definitive large American APO, improved over a decade with refinements to optics, mechanical machining and design innovation. Cool down is good but a smaller apo is better.
