Celestron Star Hopper 11
I rate this scope highly because it was optically good, and even though it was a fast scope, it was pretty good for planetary observing. I don't knock off points for its bulkiness or other characteristics that are inherent in a mid sized Dob. The only reason I don't give this scope a ten is that - while it was easy to assemble -- the instructions did not line up exactly with the provided materials.

I purchased this scope one year ago. It was the largest scope I could get that would fit across the back of my Windstar. The more I use it the better it gets. Easy setup as only a dob can be. Only one problem...Azimuth movement became sticky. I fixed it with modifcations mentioned on the "small dob site". LP records in between the baseboards made the movement VERY smooth (had to drill out to accept nylon bushing.

It performs well on double stars when I use an aperture mask. I also like the wide open views afforded by my 42mm Celestron Ultima. Now if I could just afford a panoptic 32mm 2" eyepiece....

But GO TO A STAR PARTY before buying any scope!

One other thing....Plan on purchasing a TELRAD and a new focuser for this scope ($100 university optics) because the existing helical focuser is a HUGE PAIN IN THE .....

I bought this scope while my U2K was in the shop for warranty work. I have had it for a month and don t miss the s-c. Great optics once collimated. Easy to set up, well built compared to the Meade Dobs... can t wait to receive the Konig at 40 mm for the wide field stuff. I keep finding stuff with this scope while scanning the skies for other things. Unlike others I like the helical focusser because it s easy to work with mitts on just grab and turn. Also when changing ep s slide them in and out to reach focus then lock. Quick. Not bad on planets but not as good as my S-C 8.I bought the last one at my dealer ata discount and am very happy with it. Easy to set up and can even get it into the Tercel.Had to add lead weights to the bottom for balance. The mount is very stable and smooth in both dec and RA (LP S ADDED).
