This was the first anime I ever saw. Back then I thought it was amazing, but now that I've seen so many other things, I don't know what I would think if I saw it again. It seems to have a Miyazaki influence and it also reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. The main character starts off as a good person but becomes corrupted, cheats on his wife etc. I can't remember enough about it to give it a rating.

I have seen this video only in its Japanese version, and from what I've heard of the feeble attempts at translation perhaps that is better. I thought it was a wonderful stroy. Like most truly great movies, it's kind of a lot to take in at first, but the more times you see it, the more you appreciate the depth of the story and the intensity of the passion. It has the melodrama and romanticism of many Western movies in the fifties and sixties set in exotic locales, such as LOST HORIZON and KRAKATOA EAST OF JAVA, where story and character were more important than flashy effects, exploding gunfire and crashing bass.
The end, when the crushing realization of what Izu (Alan) has done comes home to him, and the last other survivor of the city turns to stone before his eyes, followed by his bitter weeping in the shadow of the great tree, is particularly poignant.

Well, I think that this is a very good movie. Its deep and the characters are likable. The storie is definitely its strong point. Since its kind of old, the animation isn't that pretty, but its OK. In the dubbed version the voice acting isn't that good, either, but I got used to it after a few minutes. If you want to watch a movie in which you become somewhat attached to the characters, feeling their pain and joy, watch this movie...

This is bad man,very very bad. Very sad ending indeed
ok here goes, the princess kill the prince and then kill herself.
so the main guy blonde hair at first care alot about his people
right at the end he turned traitor and kill all his people by flooding
the dam. this is somewhat like romeo and juliet but not exactly.
of all these thing he has done, by making it up until he age and die
he think that he can go where his wife is, the ghost ship that floats around
the oceans. by rebuilding the kingdom which he has destroyed is the way
he try to be forgiven by god... he has killed too many people I dont how he get away with it this guy should be put to death.
anyway i dont recommend anyone watching this at all this too sad!

I thought this was a really great anime. It has an intriguing plot and very dramatic scenes. Many people seemed to bash it because it didn't have a "happily ever after"-type ending. Well, tough! It's still an excellent movie which kept me interested throughout its entire length.

Someone stated earlier that the artwork in the movie is old and not very pretty. I thought totally opposite. I've seen a number of anime and I thought the art in Windaria was very beautiful and detailed. The characters and other (sprites?) weren't amazing, but I did think they were above average. What really stood out was the background art.. I think they looked worthy of being displayed in art museums.

Was pretty bad, I had betrayals too. And this one wasn't even done well. Depressing and kinda just lame. I didn't enjoy it.
