Ninja Resurrection: The Revenge of Jubei
Be warned, this is not the sequel to Ninja Scroll as it was first mistaken to be. The only thing the two had in common was that the were based on the same historical figure, Jubei Yagyu. Oh and another thing, Makai Tenshoh (original name)should have be translated into Demon resurection. On its own merits, this anime had a good story, fantastic animation (even better thatn ninja scroll), the craziest action scenes and the most animated gore. This one's not for the kiddies. There is also a religious conflict against christianity which makes it hard to sympathize with any one side. I guess that the true villain is Mori So-Iken and that Jubei is a hero of the story because, as you'll see in later episodes, he finishes what he starts when Satan is reborn.

and tricked me into thinking it was a Ninja Scroll sequel!
but still an ok anime :)

If you havent seen NINJA SCROLL before then go see NINJA SCROLL!!!
The only reason why people bare to watch this is because they think its a NINJA SCROLL sequel. Well think again its NOT. This movie is not the worst anime i've seen before but it cannot dare to compare with NINJA SCROLL. Also Jubei in ninja resurrection is a copycat of Jubei Takagami in NINJA SCROLL. Their last names are different. If you have seen NINJA SCROLL before, then watch this just to see that this aint no sequel.

I think that this movie was terrible. I have seen Ninja Scroll and this doesn't even compare. This is the type of movie that you would watch if you had absolutely nothing else to do.

Sure it was short, sure it was not based on ninja scroll...it still is a great movie (one of the best part one in a series I have seen). great art, I can't wait for part 2

If you liked Ninja Scroll, you'll hate this!! This is NOT a sequel to Ninja Scroll. The animation is poorly done and the plot is worse. I cannot get myself to finish the movie.

This animation is a telling of the classic japanese story, Makai Tensho. This is the ORIGINAL Jubei. (sorry Kibagami Jubei, but Yagyu Jubei is the original badassed Jubei!)
while the animation is Ninja ressurection is (only very) slightly inferior to that of the animation in Jubei Ninja Chronicles (ninja scroll, you wannabe anime-scrub) It is to be a longer OAV series and should tell a more complete, satisfying story.
It is quite bloody, so those of you into action and gore, well this is THE ONE for you, this season.
And for gods sake, Musashi Miyamoto is in the damn video! How can you beat that?

And by the way, for those of you who don't know, the first Samurai Spirits (okay, okay, Samurai Showdown for the Japanese Impaired) video game was based on Makai Tensho. If you remember, one of the playable characters was a one-eyed swordsman named, Yep, You guessed it! Jubei! (however, this jubei used Nito style, which was the Rival school of swordsmanship from that of Jubei's family..Yagyu Shinkage Ryu. Interesting implications, that.)
ALSO...the main villian in the first Samurai Showdown game was none other than the main villian of Makai Tensho (okay, Ninja Ressurection, damn newbies!) Shiro Amakusa! In fact, the Shiro Amakusa of the video game is dressed exactly like the Amakusa of the Live action version of Makai Tensho (sold here as Samurai Armegeddon...the old version was called Samurai reincarnation, which is why Makai Tensho animation is called Ninja Ressurection, sort of a homage to the original english version release of the Live action movie)
additionally, the sword Masamune (actually a sword made by the smith-Masamune) that is prominent in many of the cooler Japanese console Rpgs (including several of the Final Fantasy installments) comes from Makai Tensho!
Didn't know that this story was so ingrained in Japanese culture, Didja!

This anime was excelent! Anyone who says it is not is either out of their stupid little minds, or just don't know a good Manga when it slaps them in the face. Sure it's not the sequal to Ninja Scrol (Damn good Manga! Must see it if you haven't.) but I think it was almost as good. The action is intence(A bit too much gore.)and the story line is excelent. A bit hard to understand properly if you are not a Protestant Christian and not a Catholic, but is excelent all the same. If you're 18 go out and buy all the episodes. If you're not 18, f--- it! Go get one anyway. Be sure to fast forward the end part though. Even I dislike it. Only bad part about the movie that is.

One of the most interesting anime movies ever. The story-line makes you feel like you're watching one of those old Charlton Heston biblical movies but with a lot more sex and violence. Don't expect to see a sequel to Ninja Scroll. Jubei was the main protagonist in Ninja Scroll. In this movie he has more of a confused villian-slash supporting role. The characters in Jubei's ninja assault team; however, were ridiculous. I can buy the medieval blimps and rifles but not the bazookas and glider wings that look like something out of Blade Runner. My only other complaint has to do with th length. 60 minutes? C'mon, throw us a frickin' bone here! Otherwise, I'd have to say it's a good movie that both anime fans and non-anime fans can enjoy(if they have astrong stomach).

Great movie. I've seen both Ressurection 1 and 2 and can't wait for 3 to come to the States. I'll tell you one thing--it's definately not based on Ninja Scroll; but rather, the names are actually based on the SNK game Samurai Showdown/Samurai Spirits. If you look, the names are exactly matching the characters they resemble--Jubei Yagyu, Amakusa...they're in there. The Blue Haried dude in #2 resembled Ukyo. Look it up. I'm sure you'll find other stuff that comes from the Samurai games.

This was indeed very well done, but it doesn't even come close to touching Ninja Scroll. Ninja Scroll is the best anime with Akira and Fist of the North Star coming very close behind. I admit I have not seen many animes, but if there is one better than Ninja Scroll, I'd like to know about it.
