I've been a Yamato fan since I was 5 and I still love it!!!! It had all the elements of a superior storyline, good animation and a mixture of upbeat music scores.

A classic! There has never been a better sci-fi anime made!

i absolutely adore the space battleship Yamato. The animation is fantastic (because it is japanese). The sound effects are something else, the shock cannon especially. I just can't stop watching it.

This is the show that got me into anime in the first place but...
compared to todays standards the animation is sorely lacking.
Not only that the story just doesn't quite hold my interest like it
did 15 or so years ago and character development is nonexistent.

In short: Unless you are out to recapture your lost childhood
RENT SOMETHING ELSE.

To me this is better than Gundam but falls short of the mark in terms of Robotech. But it is a good intro to people unfamiliar with the Starblazer/Yamato series.

Yamato: Space Battleship
This anime dates back to the late 70's/early 80's where it was popularly known in the US as "Starblazers". Starblazers was actually composed of two series: The Quest for Iscandar and The Comet Empire. Yamato: Space Battleship is a re-compilation of the former; the entire TV series was basically re-edited into 2 hours.

Animation. The overall animation is about par with the animation of the era, which is to say, it's not terribly great. It's similar to other anime of the period such as G-Force, Speed Racer, and Voltron.

Plot. Although I throrougly enjoyed the original Starblazers series, having watched both series multiple times, I couldn't get too into this one. I'm not sure why. Maybe because I've seen it before? I'm not sure, but I actually fell asleep watching it!

Soundtrack. Better than average. This is the original Japanese soundtrack (though the American one wasn't so bad...).
