University Optics Orthoscopic 12.5mm
See my comments on the 12.5mm Ultima. One or the other (or both-they're that good!) belongs in every eyepiece collection. Adequate eye relief, unbelieveably bright, sharp image. Planetary performance like this should cost more than $56!!! Must be seen to be believed.

Image very clear to the edge. Eye relief still not really enough for those who put on glasses

Excellent eyepiece! Sharp as a tack right out to the edge with great contrast. The FOV issue with Orthos is over-blown. I also use the 25mm, 18mm, 9mm, and, 6mm. The eye-relief on the 6 is short, but prefectly useable.

This (and the 9mm) are the eyepieces I use with the Klee 2.8x barlow to do planetary work with my Intes 6in. Mak-Newt. This yields 201x and 280x. This combo yields excellent views that run neck and neck with 6in AP. Sharpness and contrast have to be experienced.

Great eyepiece! I bought this and a Celestron 12.5 Ultima for a friend. Had a chance to compare the two and found the UO clearly sharper though the Celestron has a bit wider field. Actually bought the 9mm UO ortho as well -another excellent choice. I own Naglers, Meade Ultra and Superwides, Vixen Lanthums and Takahashis as well. The UO's are the sharpest of the bunch. Clear to the edge, brightest by far and sharp as tacks. I plan to but the entire set of UO orthos - at the price, heck at several times the price, they are fantastic!

Everything they say about the UO 12.5mm ortho is true. This eyepiece is razor sharp to the edges, shows high contrast, and is quite bright through my 6" MCT. It easily outperforms my 15mm Antares plossl in planetary work, which is not a shabby performer either. Maybe it's not a fair comparison, but this is the closest eyepiece that I can make any comparisons to in this category. I did not find the eye relief to be a problem and I do wear glasses. I rate it a solid 10!

Got this ocular a few days ago first time for clear skys. Took it out and looked at Jupiter and the moon. Tack sharp very high contrast and bright views to the edge of field much better in contrast and brightness than my plossl. Will definatly my orthos from now on. Cant beat the price either

University Optics Orthoscopic 12.5mm
I bought one a year ago to replace the cheesy 10mm Plossl that came with my Discovery 8" Dob and often use it with a Celestron Ultima Barlow. It is very sharp to the edge and has better contrast than any Plossl I have ever see. On steady nights, planetary views are very impressive. Nice sharp views of globular clusters and the Ring Nebula. Good eye relief for the size. Lunar details are like being in lunar orbit. No rubber eyecup was supplied, but I got some from Orion. All this and less than $60. Who woodah thunkit?

This eyepiece lived up to the superlatives delivered above. Compared it to a TeleVue 15mm plossl, the closest fl I had around. On Jupiter, much better contrast and noticeably better color correction on the limb. On stars, I turned off the drive and allowed Castor to drift right to the stop: the TV lasted to about 75 of field before coma effects showed up, while the 12.5mm UO showed a pinpoint to about 95 percent of field--nearly to the stop. TV was $82 and UO was $56. Guess which one I sold the next day?

Bang for the buck this is a winner. Relief is just barely OK for my
glasses. Contrast is better than my 2 TV EP's (40mm Plossl and 6mm Radian).
Very sharp with a tiny bit of loss near the edges. When push comes to shove
I go to this EP. For glasses this is close and I would not go any shorter.
Great EP for a good price....10

University Optics Orthoscopic 12.5mm
Great brightness and sharpness on Jupiter and Saturn. I am very pleased. The FOV is very ample for regular viewing. In addition, the eye relief is very good without glasses and seems like it would be fine with glasses also. I will use this ep a lot. It barlows very well too.
I also bought the 9 mm and 7 mm & they perform equally well except for the somewhat reduced FOV & eye relief....both of which are still fine for me. I like the 9 mm almost as well as the 12.5 mm...However, I wasn't impressed with the 7 mm the first time...But, after really giving it(7 mm) a try...I just Got to keep it...This set of U.O. Orthos are equal to their reputation...As far as "Bang for the Buck"....These (3) are winners....and (NO), I don't see them used on e-bay...I'm keeping & using mine too.

Overall fit and finish is excellent. Green multicoated lenses further serve to suggest that this is high quality unit.
Initial tests on the moon with my F10 8 inch Meade LX 50 lead me to believe that this is is an excellent optic, sharp right out to the field stop. Puts my 26 mm Meade super plossl to shame in this respect.
Unit is supplied with dust covers. Excellent value at twice the price.
Only drawback is the limited field, however that is of little concern for planetary work.
Overall : Very highly reccomended.
