Fantastic unit! Clean signal as loud as I could take it. Beautiful imaging. This unit has all of the features that I was looking for and works very nicely. The 7 channel dsp implementation is very interesting. It significantly widens my soundstage across the front of the room. This was an upgrade from an RX-v992. I am very very happy with this unit.

I just received got my 2095 last weekend and the front panel design is exactly the same design as the DSPA1. The display panels messages are like the DSPA1 where it shows the name of the location for which each DSP mode is designed for. You get the red backlit remote which is the same as the DSP1 and also a second room remote. There is now lots of optical inputs whereas the 2092 only had one. They removed the gain switch on the back and made it software configurable. The sound is still tight in the unit but is now starting to loosen up. One thing that bothered me about the 2095 is that before on the 2092 you could adjust the the surround, center, delay effects surround, by depressing one of the directional buttons but now you must press another button in conjuction with the directional buttons to adjust these parameters. I was disappointed with the audio DTS disk that I bought ...Paul McCartney's album Venus and Mars...instruments where no longer localized on a soundstage, lack of output to the subwoofer channel but I did here alot of sounds that were hidden on the stereo version of this album. The manual has a very high level of detail and the
writers go out of there way to make sure you understand how to setup your listening environement and also your speaker placement. It was worth the wait.

Yamaha RX-V2095 w/DTS
Ok people, let me just tell you that this receiver is the bomb !!!
I picked one up for evaluation and it is awesome !!!
It is basically an updated version of the RXV 2092. It also has a smoother and more refined sounding DSP
processor and Dolby Digital performance,
It has DTS and 6 channel inputs.
It is an absolute steal at $1249 shipped to your door with a 2 year warranty !!!
IT just goes to show you that as each year passes, electronics continually become a better value/dollar for the
consumer.
What the heck will Yamaha think of next?

As good as the Yamaha DSP-A1 in terms of quality, design, features, interface, etc.., but a lot less espensive. The only real trade off is a couple of extra inputs for the DSP-A1, but the RX-V2095 gives you a tuner (and a second room remote - for what that's worth). Money being no object, the DSP-A1 is a better unit, but the RX-V2095 is a better value. This breaks the "buy the best you can afford rule". For most people they'd be better off with the RX-2095 and spending the extra grand or so on other things.

The 2095 surpassed all of my expectations! Clean sound to as loud as I (and out of safety my speakers) could take it, which was around 12 o'clock with the impedance set to 4 Ohms. Imaging was all I could ask for whether I was listening to Jazz or Heavy Metal. Fourplay and the new Russ Freeman/Craig Chaquico effort "From the Redwoods to the Rockies" provided tight bass, warm mids and crisp highs and DD was truly astounding, placed me in the center of the action rather than creating a soundstage in front of me like Pro-Logic. I am not even close to finished tweaking the various adjustments i.e. presence room size, surround room size, initial delay, surround delay, etc. etc. etc... My set up is the 2095, PSB 500's for the mains, PSB 100 for center, PSB Alpha's for the rears, and a Velodyne 8/10 SW. The only downside is now I'm thinking of stepping up to PSB Stratus Silvers as mains, Stratus Minis for the rear, C5 for center and either Velodyne 12/15 or PSB Subsonic III. Thought hard about the DSP-A1 but this price allowed me to pick up a DVD player, Panasonic A110 and some higher grade interconnects and speaker wire plus the 2095 for around the same price. This is IMHO the absolute best value on the market today!

Don't set the impedance switch to 4 ohms !!! All you are doing is limiting your supply voltage and feeding half your power capability to a series resistor.
You are limiting your dynamics and power especially in bass !!!
keep it set a 8 ohm regardless of speaker setting and make sure it is properly vented.
The 4/8 ohm switch is there for marketing and safety compliance.
Yamaha put the switch there to ease customer concerns.
if you want to know further, call Yamaha at (800) 292-2982 and ask for Bruce Bernstein. He will set you straight.

Yamaha RX-V2095 w/DTS
I won't try to rate this unit yet because I've only had it one evening. But let's just say I'm very impressed so far. I own a Denon AVR-3200 that I've been happy with, but the 2095 seems to be the receiver I was looking for several months ago when I got the Denon. I'll just highlight some of the things that jumped out at me in comparing it to the 3200. First, I echo the above comments regarding how clean-sounding it is. The Denon always sounded clean (even at high levels), but this thing just seems to have much more headroom. My Definitive ProCinemas have never sounded better--creating the illusion that I upgraded my speakers at the same time. Second, I'm not much of a DSP fan, but I really think some of these could be useful--especially for enhancing over-the-air TV shows. Normal DD and DPL seems comparable to the Denon, but I like the idea of being able to enhance things a little bit. As long as it doesn't sound too gimicky, I'm not too much of a purist to be able to appreciate what it can add to the experience. I don't care much for the remote, though. There are some things about it that are pretty ingenious, and I could learn to like it. But it's also clunky and burdensome. I do however, prefer it to the Denon's which was just as ugly but without this much power and intelligence. The tuner section is a pleasant surprise. A quantum leap above the junky excuse for a tuner on the Denon which I never used.

Yamaha RX-V2095 w/DTS
I finally found a store that had both units hooked up so I could do an A/B comparison. First of all, everyone was saying they have the same case. This is not true the DSP-A1 is about one inch taller but layout and display is almost identical. Remotes identical as far as I can tell. 2095 has a tuner, A/B speakers and multiroom functions. DSP-A1 has more digital inputs (3coax,1RF, 5TOS vs 4TOS), more DSP's (39 vs 36 couldn't tell which ones missing)and a digital out.
Now for the sound. Both hooked up with all Klipsch speakers and sub. We began with the DVD Lost in Space. Switching between the two units I could not tell any difference with the units in DD 5.1 mode. Tried cinema 70mm on both units. The difference in power was not noticeable and both were equal with clarity. I did not notice any difference in the decoding with my ears. Next, we put in Robert Cray, Yes, George Strait, and Mozart. Once again with music the units sounded almost identical. I am not an aduiophile but have what I would consider an above average ear for detail. I do not think that I could tell them apart if I was blind folded and I bet most people on this board couldn't.
Overall, I came away extremely impressed with RX-V2095. I was planning to purchase the DSP-A1 gold but will now probably get the 2095 and save the $1000.

I could not be happier with this 2095. It is truly a naturally sounding, clean machine. But I've always been partial to Yamaha . . . as my first receiver back in '76 was the CR1000, and it's still running strong to this very day!

Yamaha RX-V2095 w/DTS
I absolutely love this receiver. I have only had it for about 10 days, but I have already had the chance to check out most of the features. I never thought I would actually prefer watching movies in an enhanced DSP mode... but I do!

Music is also phenominal. Nothing beats the Yamaha at this price point. I was also looking at its big brother, the DSP-A1, and the B&K AVR-202, and a variety of separates. I felt that the 2095 provided the best value. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the amplification in this receiver; it can drive my NHT 2.9's with ease.

I reccommend keeping the impedance selector switch set to 8 ohms, even when driving 4-6 ohm speakers. Why Yamaha even provided the switch, I do not know. Switching to the 4-ohm setting effectively reduces the output capabaility from the amp section (I believe it reduces the rail voltage for the output transistors). My receiver runs nice and cool at the 8-ohm setting, even with sub-6-ohm speakers.

Alas, I do have a couple gripes. The remote. While it is easy to use and has replaced my CD and DVD player remotes, I would estimate the lifespan of the cover to be no longer than 1 year... My bigger gripe concerns Yamaha's non-standard choice for speaker binding posts. Two-way binders? Fah! All they accept are bananas (this is good) and bare wire. They feel flimsy and I am afraid I am going to rip them off when I tighten them (I haven't yet terminated the wires for my rear speakers, so I am going the bare-wire route with them). The binding posts will not work with spades or even standard pins! Yamaha didn't seem to cut corners anywhere else on this box... I wonder why they opted for these binders...

Anyway, here is my rating breakdown:
Performance: 10
Features: 10
Remote: 8
Build Quality: 9 (great overall; I would give the binding posts a 3.5)
Value: 10

I am about to buy this unit. However, I'll second the opinion on
the quality of the remote control cover. In fact, 2 of the 3 floor
units I've seen with this cover were broken (front cover broken off).
Granted one was at BestBuy, but... maybe Yamaha will consider putting
some effort in improving the remote cover (I'd gladly pay extra,
especially on this unit where the price is extremely reasonable).

I saw in the specifications that the distortion of the 2095 is 0.005% and the 2092 is 0.015%. Anyone heared the diff ???

Bought this unit 5 days ago and I love it. This is my first Yamaha receiver after being a Pioneer elite fan for over ten years. This unit is so much better than the VSX Pioneer series.

I am amazed at the DD sound quality and transparency. Have not found any DTS software yet but I am anxious to hear this as well.

The only incident so far was a demo with a friend on the Super Speedway IMAX disk. Volume was at about 10:30 on the scene when Mario was taking test laps. When the cars front tires hit the black asphalt patch on the course I heard a terrible clipping sound on the right front main speaker. I get to the remote to turn the volume down as fast as I could. This sound is like nails on a chalk board. A large amp is in the plans for the future.

I love this unit!
