TeleVue Ethos 8mm
This EP combines the best characteristics of the Nagler and Radian eyepieces. Wide AFOV along with long eye relief. The 15mm eye relief allows nearly the entire 100 degree field to be taken in comfortably without moving your head around. Also, there is very little blackout, even when observing objects in the daylight you have to move your head around to induce blackout. Excellent image sharpness is maintained from the center out to about 90 percent of the field. Sharpness is comparable to the best Plossl’s and Orthos I have used. Color appears to be neutral and slight CA can seen on bright objects along the edge of the field.
The down side is cost. The Ethos line is selling for $600+. The upside is that you can get away with owning less eyepieces. I’m down to using 3 eyepieces for most of my observing. I find that the 8mm & 13mm Ethos, and 22mm Nagler t4 can be used in both of my SCT’s (8 & 11 inch) and 4 inch refractor without reaching back into my eyepiece case.

TeleVue Ethos 8mm
I have several Ethos and I must say that I love them all. The 8mm is excellent for planetary nebula, planets and lunar observations. This eyepiece hits a nice high power option on my 16" F4 dob. I like the 8mm so much that I just purchased a 6mm for primary use in my 60mm scope that rides on a manually operated alt-az mount. Give and Ethos a ride, it's the best thing out there in my opinion.

TeleVue Ethos 8mm
I have both the 8mm and the 13mm. The 13mm is an obvious work horse in my 16" f4.5 dob with Paracorr, but so is the 8mm. I find myself using the 8mm more than I thought I would when I bought it. The 13 gives me a 2.5 mm exit pupil and the 8mm gives me a 1.5mm exit pupil. The 8 is better on small, faints DSOs including many galaxies. Although it's far from small or faint, I actually found I preferred the higher magnification view offered by the 8mm on M51. Depending on the evening and seeing the 8mm may also be better on globs and of course planetary nebula. When viewing globs and galaxies at high power, it's easy to appreciate the extra field of view offered by the Ethos over a Nagler.
