Got this receiver for only $200. Since I already had the Sony SDP E800, this was probably as cheap a solution as I could find. Besides it matches the E800 and is alot easier and cheaper than feeding the E800 directly to an amp. It actually sounds very good. I think it sounds as good as any sub $500 receiver. At that price range I think you have to expect alot of compromises. Some like to toute their Yamahas, Denons, HK's or Onkyos but in the bottom range, they all seem to have similar build quality and components. They only differ slightly in sound quality and it's usually a matter of personal preference, although this receiver does seem much better at 5.1 channel than 2 channel stereo. It's less dynamic in stereo mode, although I've heard slightly more dynamic receivers in the sub $500 price catagory, none have ever really thrilled me. I've only had it just over a month but so far no problems (knock on wood). Does not get hot and no hiss at all. Does everything it should and nothing it shouldn't.

This unit sucks... It is a piece of crapp. Spend the extra money and get into a higher end sony!!!

This Unit has AMAZING features, fantastic build quality, and fabulous performance!

EXCEPT!!!

The thing hisses like no mans business!!!
I have NEVER EVER been dissappointed in a Sony product until I brought THIS ONE!
This unit is 99.99999% awesome - but that .00001% makes it unbearable...
at low volumes the hiss is so unbearable, you cant hear the music!
giving it credit, the higher the volume, the less hiss, and after Halfway, you cant hear it throught the loudness of the music, but i cant have it that loud at 2am when I am watching tv!!!

buy it if you want - but make sure u have a demonstration first to see whether you can bear the Hiss - if you can, then this is a PERFECT Receiver - if not, leave it WELL alone... :(
