THESE SPEAKERS SOUND GREAT AS MY MAINS IN MY HOME SURROUND SYSTEM OR JUST
USING THEM BY THEMSELVES TO LISTEN TO MUSIC. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO
ANYONE WHO'S LOOKING FOR A REASONABLE PRICED FLOOR STANDING SPEAKER. I'M
GIVING THEM A 10 FOR THE VALUE AND FEATURES YOU GET FOR SPEAKERS IN THIS
PRICE RANGE.

I tried a variety of speakers in this price range- the Energy XL's are nice but no comparison to the sound of the Monitor 9

These speakers sound great, bags of bass and clear treble, the sound could be a tad clearer for my taste. But nothing's perfect. Then I tried the limits of these speakers my ears gave up and no distortions. The only CD I found the limits of these speakers is Telarc's Great Fantasy Album track 21. T.Rex just outstomped the Monitors.

After listening to many speakers in the same price range, I was VERY anxious to test the Monitor-9s. I had compiled a bunch of reviews (all good) and I was expecting a clean, uncoloured sound. After 5 seconds of listening (yes 5 seconds..) in the same room, same system as for a lot of other speaker listening sessions) I was AMAZED how awful they sounded. I can't believe that anyone can praise these speaker for anything but their good price. They had bad imaging, the voices sounded like if the speakers were in a cardboard box and the sound was VERY coloured. I finally ended up with B&W DM603 which aren't perfect, but frankly don't compare AT ALL with those Monitor 9's. Frankly, for 100 to 300$ extra, you'll get something MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

I don't know what was wrong with the setup you were listening with.. but.. I've spent hours upon hours recently listening to speakers at some local dealers evaluating, and the monitor 9s sound great, top choice right now is the monitor 90p though.. But, the 9s had excellent imaging from my testing. Verical and otherwise, the sound was very consistent regardless of my position. You may want to give them another shot at another dealer. I'd have to agree with the individual that gave these a 2 rating (his was low enough to sway the curve, so I will only make this a comment). The day I listened to the Monitor 9's, I also listened to the Studio 60, and Pinnacle Gold Reference. The cables to the equipment I was listening to, cost more than my current receiver, so I don't think the system set up was a problem. The Studio 60's sounded awesome for music (would need some low-end help for HT). To my ears, the Pinnacle's sounded every bit as good as the 60's at half the price, and no, I'm not a Pinnacle rep. The Monitor 9's sounded dead and hollow compared to the other 2. A friend of mine owns the older 5Se-III (or something like that) model speakers, and they to sounded much better than the 9's.

Again, not everyones taste is the same, I just found these speakers to be dull and lifeless. Overall, I like the Paradigm line, but would avoid this particular speaker.

Great speakers. Perhaps not as clear as the Reference line of Paradigm, but better bass than the lower models of the References. Great for HT - it's always good to have full range speakers up front to compliment a separate sub. The sound is open and airy - very detailed. The midrange could use some work (hence the 9 score), but everything else is good. The midrange isn't the most natural sounding of any speaker I have heard, but for the price range, it is nothing worse than average. However, if you're room is small, you might have problems with excessive bass. My room is plenty large, so I get well balanced, deep, extended bass. For it's overall balance of price and performance, I give it a 9.

I listened the monitor 9's and I thought they provided a good full sound with tight bass and clear highs. They definitly get my vote for a good buy. And by the way to anyone reading these reviews, don't just take the advice of some person putting in a comment, because it is probably not a educated comment!!!!
Anyways everybody's ear is different and thats why we have so many different speaker companies making speakers. Paradigm did a good job in my books!!!

These speakers have painfully bright highs and boomy lows -no midrange at all. There is a good reason why you don't find 8" drivers in 2-way speakers.

Great speakers. I haven't had any problems with bloated bass (but then again, I spent a lot of time positioning the speakers and I have a large room to work with). The only flaw I can find in these speakers, is the upper-midrange. It's a little rough, but it's not bad, especially when considering the price of these speakers. Overall, great speakers!

I recently got a pair of Paradigm Monitor 9s and let me tell you: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. They sounded OK at the dealer but once I brought them home, the nightmare begun. Paradigm has a serious quality control problem. First-off, one of the upper woofers was blown and developed serious rattle and clipping just about at any level of music. After close examination I also noticed that 2 retaining screws for that woofer were not holding at all and I could just pull them off with my fingers. After more listening I noticed that the sound image is actually shifted to one side and is not centered. After some tests, cable replacement, speaker shifting from one side to another, tone tests, I realized that one speaker has some %50 less output from the midrange and up. Probably some crossover problem. These are brand new factory sealed speakers !

I really wanted to like these speakers and was impressed by all the good reviews and stuff. Now I'm very disappointed and will return them for a refund or exchange for a pair of NHT Supertwos or something else. I totally lost my confidence in Paradigm. Is this the kind of stuff one would expect from a $750 pair of speakers ? Maybe Paradigm used to be number one but now, I have the feeling they're just into mass production poor quality speakers.

I'm really sorry that I have to post this review and don't like to drag in the dirt any product nor company for nothing, but these are the facts and are not subject to interpretation.

Es una caja con una muy buena resolucion y un muy buen directo, ubicando a los instrumentos en el lugar de la escena.
Bajos contundentes, pero que no ahogan el sonido ni lo borronea, agudos claros y reales, una caja a tener en cuenta.
Tiene personalidad...

Es una caja con gran personalidad, yo tengo una atacada con electronica Rotel pre y potencia 980 con 120 v por canal, tiene muy buena resolucion y un bajo seguro que no emborrona la musica - escucho Rosck Progresivo y musica clasica en ambos estilos rinden muy bien.
Es un monitor que no es caro de acuerdo a lo que suena..

These Speakers are great!!!
I just bought a pair and to be honest they are beautiful looking and beautiful sounding.

The bass is very strong!! Maybe a bit to strong for my room.
I really have to congradulate this Canadian company for making such great speakers at such a great prices!

They perform great!!!

Value and quality in a speaker. Wow.

I have paired these with my mini-monitors and my CC-350 center channel and i am very impressed at the volume with little distortion. And i have a cheapy Pioneer reciever to boot, so i am very, very pleased.

Paradigm Monitor 9 (frontais)
Paradigm Monitor 3 (surround)
Paradigm CC 350 (central)
Paradigm PS 1000 (subwoofer)

Tal conjunto toca incrivelmente bem, com uma uniformidade de timbre perfeita, sendo que o ponto forte destas caixas (Monitor 9), para mim, é sua qualidade nos graves, que podem dispensar inclusive o uso de um subwoofer para audição de música em estéreo.

Vale a compra, para mim é uma caixa altamente recomendável.
