They have the lowest price for mail order! The only problem is the sales people are real jerks! The two guys to avoid are RON and Ray! Make sure you know what you want because returing stuff is a real nightmare!!!!!!Buyer BEWARE!

I ordered a stand-alone Carver Dolby Pro-Logic processor. The first unit arrived on time but had a defective volume pot motor. The RMA process was no hassle. I sent it back at my expense and soon received a new replacement that worked fine. The price was unbeatable. I would like to see them carry a more complete line of mid-range gear.

They returned phone calls, called to make sure my order arrived, and had the best price I could find by about $500 on a $2600 speaker order.

I bought a Hafler amp/pre-amp combo. What they sent me was clearly used merchandise, with small scratches on the unit. Furthermore, the amp was defective, with the auto-off triggering after about 15-20 minutes. They would not refund the shipping cost, even though they clearly tried to pull a fast one on me.

I would NOT recommend doing business with them. They were non-responsive and clearly unprofessional to ship used merchandise as new.

I have been doing buisness with SoundCity for many years now. I have spent thousands of dollars in purchases and have recommended them to my friends. I agree that some of the salesmen are real jerks, but they are from the New Yorkish area! I do my odering with Ray as well, and I have not had a bad experience dealing with him.
As for the used equipment that someone said they received, I personally have not had that experience, but if I did... I would make sure I took a special trip to New Jersey (product in hand) and give it back to them in very aggressive manner. I have had only one incident a few years back, and it involved a pair of speakers that were damaged in shipping. The matter was taken care of very quickly (and they came to my house!) and very efficiently (within days). If you're unsure about SoundCity being authorized to sell a particular product, call the company of which you plan to buy from and ask them. As long as I keep getting good service, good prices, and quality merchandise (same merhandise that you can get from your local hi-fi store) from SoundCity, I will continue to buy from them. Period!

I have purchased stereo and video equipment from sound city city since 1990 and have had no problems. All gear were exactly what I ordered and at an outstanding price that I could not beat anywhere. Shipment time was a little long sometimes due to not in stock problems. But all gear was packed with extra padding and was received in excellent shape. The salesman are wierd, but that may be the difference between the west and the east in the way people handle each other.

If you're buying they treat you reasonably. If you're not, you'll be lucky if the salesperson ONLY hangs up on you! Call them LAST when you're shopping for a product. The salespeople are usually pretty HUNGRY for orders and most will bargain with you to get the sale. Expect them to beat your best price, but don't forget the shipping charges! If he/she doesn't bargain, then call back and try with another representative. Expect at least a week to receive your order. I'll give them a "6" strictly for prices!

I've returned an integrated amplifier to Sound City. Instead of
crediting my account they charged me twice. It was a real nightmare
to get my money back. These guys are verbally brutal. BEWARE.

Excellent prompt service. Ray called within a few days to make sure order had arrived and that two items backordered were on the way. Received them the next day and was not billed until items were shipped. Ray is first class guy in my book.

I ordered 4 components late on a Thursday: Receiver, CD Changer, VCR, and DVD player. When I called on Friday to verify the order and query when I would receive the order I learned that the Receiver was backordered - the salesman suggested I call back on Monday to find out when I could get the receiver. Several messages to that salesman were not returned but another salesman told me the receiver order could not be filled for 16 days. I called SoundCity customer service and canceled the Receiver. I ordered the receiver from another company.
My order was received on the next Thursday: 5 working days.

I took off points because the salesman did not tell me that the receiver was backordered and he did not call me back. I still rated them high because of the good prices and because of prompt delivery.

I've done business with Sound City twice and must tell you that their pricing is the best. The sales reps are typical east coast guys, so what do you expect. Shipment was fairly prompt and I was very pleased and will do business with them again.

I ordered an Atlantic Technology sytem 350THX from them. Pretty good price. Arrived on time but with surround speaker stands missing. Was not told it was backordered! Called and was told it was being shipping out! 2 weeks later still no stands! I was thinking about buying a DVD and talked to them about it. Yesterday i called about the stands and was told they would be shipped out, no metntion was made of a DVD player. Today I recieved a package from them? Was it the stands? NO! They sent me a DVD player I DID NOT ORDER! Tracking from the UPS page says it was shipped 1 week ago! They didn't tell me they sent it, when i called yesterday! I ordered from Ray Debeak or whatever his name is! Would not do business with again! Ray if you are reading this: Were are my stands?!!! And I'm not paying shipping to send the DVD player back! I DIDN'T ORDER IT! I already bought a better DVD player for a better price from a friend of mine who works at a local store!
Potential customers: the price is pretty good but there are problems abound!

I have purchased alot of gear through these folks and have always received it in A1 condition. It is always double boxed and it has always arrived when they said it would. I returned a Denon DVD 3000 with no trouble at all. They were very helpful in the return process and created my visa in a timely fashion. By the way, I replaced the Denon DVD-3000 with the Denon DVD-5000 through soundcity. Nuff Said

I was very please with Stereo City's price and service. I talked to to reps, Joe and Rich. Both were very helpful. They talked me out of a JVC receiver and into a much better Sony ES receiver. Yes, it was more money, but the quality is better and they beat the best price I found elsewhere by a cool $100. The receiver was double boxed, sent via UPS, and received the next business day. Of course the receiver is in perfect working order.

I'm a tough grader so 9/10.
