Marantz SR-18
Great receiver. I had it for 2 days and very impressed with the natural and warm sound. I was fortunate enough to audition this receiver and the Denon 5700 prior to buying this one with the same speaker set-up Energy (EX). Certainly you get the flexibility with the Denon, but I chose sound quality, which I felt the Marantz edged over the Denon for flexibility.

Heard A-B demo with denon 5700. Close-definately. But I would have to give it to Denon, in that it clearly was superior in certain music types. I tested everything from Bob Seger to 311 to Bela Flek to Marley to Top Gun Anthem and while they were often amazingly similiar, the denon seemed "wider" in the stage amd more true in other instances. I've had one of these units for about 4 days. Each day I'm more impressed. It's extremely easy to use, has all the features I wanted, plenty of power, and sounds phenominal. It also has an all metal chassis and no cooling fan(Denon 5700 has plastic front access panel and cooling fan). It runs cool and a fan is just another possible problem somewhere down the road. The remote is great(RC2000MKII copy called RC18-SR). It replaced all of my separate remotes.

I must make a correction to the submittal above. I was originally informed that the DENON 5700 had a plastic access panel in front, this is INCORRECT. It is aluminum. I'd still choose SR-18.

Great looking piece. Very Good remote. Not so hot sound. Did a A/B with a old Adcom 555 amp. The Adcom blew it away. This was through the analog CD input. Isn't sound the most important thing? I returned the unit.

Marantz Sr-18 is an unbelievable piece of receiver with very clean and muscial sound. Very powerful and built very heavy and sturdy. Go for it

I bought mine for 150 bucks and my Pioneer rack sytem blows it away. I have two 16" in the boxes. My little AIWA sounds better....Ended up trading it for an RCA unit which rocks.

Awesome receiver, blows away Yamaha and all those bogus surround modes. Remote is awesome but I wish it were the Marantz-5000 remote instead. Still this thing rocks and it was my choice over Yamaha nad Denon. Never looking back after this purchase. Dolby 5.1, THX Ultra and DTS (music) all sound better then on any other unit I had heard before.

I just wanted to mention that the SR-18 has a cooling fan, the Amp section looks very similar to the Dennon 5600. the Fan for the Marantz is inside....I have yet to get it to come one though...when it does it does not stay on long, and it is so quiet you can't hear it anyhow. They mounted the fan internaly to avoid noise, and like I said try...TRY to get it to come on. When it does it is off almost with in a couple minutes...those are my observations.

This amp edged out the Dennon 5700 for sound. Dennon also does not have channel seperation that is as clean as the SR-18, stereo....not contest, I tried bolth out, and am impressed with bolth, just decided that the 18 was the best in my case, PS bolth tests where at home on my system running for stereo Snell Accoustic J/II up front. Very nice indeed.
