I bought this scope used and was pleasantly suprised by
it's performance. The optics are really quite good, better
than my C-8 as far, in contrast and clarity, and almost as good
as my MN56 in contrast. The drive system needs a little work,
as has already been noted, but overall a very good system.

I purchased the scope on ebay for $1300. I was surprised is was so much larger than my Celestron G8, however, I'm able to carry it in and out of the house and I only weigh 125lbs. After collminating the telescope I found it awesome. I was surprised the optics were as good as the G8. I just ordered a new nagler barlow and a orion lanthium eyepiece and I can't wait to get them!

The mount is a bit annoying being that there are only two screws for adjusting it. It takes two people to change it. Does anybody know how to improve upon this? Let me know if you do. I haven't used the motor yet since I've just had it out twice, and my neighbors house and trees are in the way of polaris. I need to move out of the downtown area...

For $1300, you can't beat it. I'll give ota a 10, mount/tripod 7.

email me with any suggestions regarding the mount - djoski@new.rr.com

Fine scope overall. Due to size I've put it on Wheelie Bars from JMI and leave it assembled in the garage now. Gets a lot more use than when I had to lug it out of the basement! Is even a great performer in polluted suburban skys.

I have had my 10" LX50 for about two years, prior to that I had the 8" LX50. It should be noted that the LX50 line is no longer made. I have owned many scopes through the years and find the optics in this one to be extremely good. Collimation holds very well. Image shift is minimal although I have found image shift in SCT's varies quite a bit between all scopes. The tripod is rock solid (tripods were sold separate with this model) but the wedge has some flex in it but is ok for visual use. I have since upgraded my wedge to a Milburn and now my setup is rock solid. The four speed RA & DEC drives are great, I escpecially like the 32x speed for fast slews. The large manual setting circles are easy to read and usually I can place the object dead center in a mid to low power eyepiece using them. A Magellan II is also available although I elected to pass on that option. This is one of three scopes I currently own and this one has traveled with me to quite a few star parties and several thousand miles. I find the collimation holds excellent and the setup breaks down adequate enough to be transported in a small car. Be warned however this is a heavy scope. Compared to the 8" LX50 I used to have the difference in weight and bulk is substantial. I have had no electronic or mechanical problems with this scope or the 8" LX50 I owned before it. I find these scopes may not have all the gadgetry of the LX200 and some others but I find it to be a simple well made and reliable scope. All in all this is the best telescope I have ever owned and I don't ever plan on letting this one go.

Bought my scope used, this one has excellent optics, great to have light gathering capibility of the 10 inch, drives are very good, tripod super. I find quite a bit of "tuning fork" resonance in forks when bumped.

I had a Meade 10" lx 50 and it was a fine telescope..then I decided to trade it for a 12" Dobsonian..and then I realised that I MISSED that Meade 10" lx 50... well, it has been almost 2 years ago and the guy that got the Meade bought a C-11 and I told him how much I missed that Meade 10" lx 50 and he told me that I could buy it for $500... of course I crossed the bay and brought "BIG BLUE " back home.. it is awesome, the tracking is perfect, it is in excellent shape... and I bought a 2" 40mm 5000 series (07669) Eyepiece, and let me tell you... these views are so good...I can see the 3D effect.. MEADE RULES !!!!!
