Kenwood KR-X1000
This receiver is capable of playing extremely loud without any audiable
distortion. It is also a very quiet receiver. It is upgradble to DD and DTS
with an external decoder. Its THX certified.

Incredibly clean sound no matter how high you crank it up.. This receiver is equally good whether you use it for home theater or for music. The remote could have been designed a little better as you have to scan to select the input source. Overall, I highly recommend it.

The best receiver I have ever owned!
And I have owned a lot.
Drives power hungry and amplifier un friendly Celestion Sl-6 speakers with ease.
Soft, almost tube like quality, with balls!
Sets up wide and deep stereo stage.
Has direct circuit path switch to bypass all the bullshit.
Find one, and hang on to it.

the only problem was that my left channel would not work along with my right
other than that it is a gret receiver.

I definitely lucked out when I bought this one. I purchased the Kenwood when the DD receivers were coming out so I got the reduced price. Extremely powerful amp stages that many have said are actually more powerful than what Kenwood has them rated at (140 W per channel). Solid as a rock and never wavers even with the most pounding soundtrack. I almost sold it to get a Denon with Dolby DD and DTS but instead added the Technics processor and we will all be together till death do us part.

Subwoofer circuit went bad for no apparent reason. Repair facility wanted $300+ to replace the two microchips. I decided not to repair it. However, I later discovered the circuit worked fine if you didn't ad a subwoofer on the special subwoofer circuit. You can still have the subwoofer by connecting it to the Tape1 "Rec" out while having the rest of the speakers hooked up normally and using the Pro Logic or THX modes. This is a work around for this partial failure of the logic circuit in the system. The THX sounds great, especially with the new StarWars Episode II DVD!

Good machine at not high cost. I got it in 1996 and still works
fine and now with an external 5.1 ch. decoder...wow it simply rocks!.
THX Lucasfilm makes a difference when playing at high levels
