Denon AVR-5700
The Denon AVR 5700 is an updated version of the 5600DTS which was released a short time ago.
This new flagship from Denon offers 96KHz/24bit DAC's on all channels, 8.1 channel inputs for future surround formats, 140 watts X 5, differential mode gain control as opposed to analog volume pot, and 32 bit DSP processing.

I had a chance to hear a demo of this unit at the CES show and all I can say is Denon has come along way !!! This receiver sounds great in home theater and great in 2 channel stereo. If 96KHz/24 bit audio ever takes off, it will make this unit even more valuable allowing it to pass even the legendary Yamaha DSP A1.

The best part about this Denon AVR 5700 is that it can be had for only $1999 !!!

At this price there is nothing on the market that offers more flexability, upgradibility for the future and overall performance. My hats off to the people at Denon, they finally put Yamaha in checkmate. This is their first receiver product that truly deserves a 10 star rating.

I've read the pdf file provided by Denon's website and I am truly amazed at the its features AND quality. I am both impressed at the component video switching capability and the high S/N ratio. Hats off to the Denon engineers for making such a superior product. In the receiver category there is no doubt that this baby deserves a 10!!

Denon AVR-5700
How does the Denon AVR-5700 compare with Yamaha's DSP-A1 or RXV-2095, Sony's TA-E900ES, Marantz's SR-18, and Pioneer's VSX-09TX? I'm in the market for a good receiver and I want the best for under $3000.00

Apparently Denon wasn't ready for the demand for this receiver. I paid for mine a couple weeks ago, and they say it will still be a couple weeks before they can get it to me. If this thing doesn't totally blow my skirt up when it arrives, I be sure to let everyone know why. So unless you're patient, or have a better source than I, maybe the readily available DSP-A1 is still the way to go.

Well, it was after great anticipation that I finally got my new Denon 5700. Read all the specs I could get my hands on, and was convinced that this was the reciever for me. The dealer called me when he got it in, and I "flew" to his location to pick it up. I have had it set up for a week now, and I am disapointed with it to say the least. The first thing that I did was listed to some music. I put on some 10,000 Maniacs, and It sounded good, not great, but it still wasn't broken in yet. Music had a very mechanical sound, especially classical. I then watched parts of the Air Force One DVD from my Sony 7700 DVD player, and was amazed at the Digital processing power of the Denon. It sounded incredible. I then noticed that there was a hiss coming from the center channel speaker that I never noticed in the showroom. It didn't make any difference how loud the volume was up. The hiss level stayed the same. It was loud. Loud enough that I could hear it during quiet passages during the movie. With the THX 5.1 mode on, the hiss was all but absent. I believe that it is because THX bypasses the tone control circuit in the Denon. With no db of gain in the tone, the receiver didn't make a sound. Problem is with that feature on, my B&W Matrix 805's didn't sound all that great without about 4db of treble gain.
The dealer is going to get me another one to try. I don't think that a reciever in this price rage should make a SOUND coming from electronics. Ill let you know what happens with the new one.

I've been trying to buy a Denon AVR-5700 for several weeks now by mail order and I've been hearing rumors about shipments being stolen in California and reports of extensive production defects and returns. Anyone else care to add to the rumor mill?

I looked at the DSP-A1 and the AVR-5700. Both had close to the same great sound. I picked the Denon because of the video switching. Both remotes were lacking. Maybe a preprogrammed PalmPilot or Windows CE Palm PC would have been more usable.

This is by far the best sounding receiver I've ever heard. Unfortunately, I have not had the prvilidge of auditioning the infamous Yamaha DSP-A1 that everyone seems to rave about.

I currently own a HK AVR-75 which I am replacing with a Denon AVR-3600DTS (I'd get the 5700 but can't afford it at this time). One of the problems with the HK was this annoying 'hiss' that came out of the speakers when no source input was made. I called HK and they said that was typical. I then went to a local pro shop (ListenUp) and told them about my noise problems, they salesman smiled and said listen to this, he played a Denon 2700 and 3200 both of which sounded the same as my 75 (bad hiss), then he played a Denon AVR-3600DTS which sounded better but still had a bit of hiss. We then played a rotel amp and preamp which to both our surprise still had the hiss. For kicks, he turned on the Denon AVR-5700 and it was dead quiet throughout the volume range. The sound quality was extraordinary in HT. I did not get a chance to hear it play music, but that doesn't really matter since most of my home listening is HT, while most of my audio listening stays in the car.

With the features and quality that Denon has built into this receiver, I would have to rate it a definite 10 for it's category. When I have the money, I will have an AVR-5700!

I owned the AVR-5600 and although satisfied with the Surround mode, the 2 channel stereo mode was lacking. The AVR-5700 I have now shares most of the specs but, I feel the sound quality is light years ahead of the 5600. The surround modes have much more presence and less midrange along with much improved seperation. The extra B channel for a second set of surround speakers is working excellent for me, while the 2 channel stereo mode is vastly improved.
When using my Sony DVP-S7700 DVD player with this unit the results are without some of the best I've heard to date for an integrated amplifier.

The dude who rated this receiver a "3" is on crack. Anyone who thinks "breaking in" receivers is part of the path on the way to sonic nirvanna is seriouly damaged. I think his/her story is largely made up.

Denon AVR-5700
I currently have a Denon AVR-5600, and my biggest complaint with it is that it turns off Dolby Digital and then turns it back on on layer switches on DVDs. I guess it's auto-sensing the bitstream, and there's a slight pause, where you can miss a few seconds of audio.

I'm hoping the AVR-5700 fixes this, but I've yet to see many reviews of it.

Can anyone who has it tell me if they've noticed audio drop-outs during layer switches on DVD?

I've owned my 5700 for a month now and have 0 complaints ( the remote could be better but who buys a receiver the remote?).
The construction is SOLID. Knobs, volume, switching and other adjustments are all precisely engineered for the right "touch and feel". It does have a short delay when switching from source to source ( it needs a few seconds to sense the input type, coaxial/digital.etc.) but not from sound field to sound field ( surround modes). The separation is amazing and power more than ample. The "on screen" adjustments are great (if you have input space on your tv). Most all features and adjustments can be made on the unit or off the remote. DD, DTS, Prologic are all auto sensed. The 5.1 channel stereo is out of this world ( if you have a surround set up) I can't wait for expanded multi channel stereo/surround sound in the future! I looked long and hard before jumping in and can honestly say I made the right choice. I heard NO HISSING of any kind, so if people here complained about it's a problem with their unit not the whole line. Set up is easy and you can adjust, through the remote, separate L/C/R BL, BR and Sub volume/power settings for each individual listening mode. (So you can set,lets say, dolby prologic with a higher subwoofer setting than your other listening modes and it will remember it). I will not be interested in a new receiver for a number of years, and am quite happy that I can honestly not worry about the "what if's".

I replaced my pioneer vsx09 with denon 5700.The video switiching and sound quality are perfect.I had a kenwood vr2090 to demo for a month and it sucked..
nice idea but the dacs in the kenwood were really noisey.The denon dacs are fast and transparant.sound adjustment is easy and straight forward.another neat feture is built in ac3 demodulator for all of us laserdisc junkies.DvD sound and picture is awesome.Pass through on video is done well (signal attentuation is nil).All in all for the price and features best a/v amp I've seen and heard..

Bare bone 2 channel audio, has anyone compared these units for basic cd listening? i have the a1, it's wonderful for ht, i think it borders on horrid for cd listening, i bought the a1 for ht only with though of adding a dedicated pre down the line, i don't have much space in the rack, if the denon were superior to the a1 for 2 channel music i would make the exchange, i have no denon dealers near me, i would also be using the denon more a pre only as i have a macintosh amp for the mains, my mac amp and the dsp-a1 just don't sound good for 2 channel music, i heard somewhere that the yammies are best suited for their internal amps, any truth to that?
second part of my questions is this, let's assume this whole 96/24 bit dvd mlp audio stuff becomes a huge hit, what kind of a modification to my ap1 would i have to make, would an external decoder be far worse sounding then a unit that had the capabilities to decode this stuff built into it internally, im sorry if im not making much sense, im not to informed when it comes to this stuff! thank you for taking the time to read, i would really appreciate any imput anyone could offer, especially pertaining to the first part of my post.

This is the best I had tried. I also tested with a pair of PSB Silver i. They were amazing. Great value.
Anyone know where can I the best price from San Francisco Bay area ? The best price I got so far is $2280, someone said it can be owned with $1999, is it mail order ?

I recently replaced my DSP A1 with the 5700. I thought have 42 DSP Modes would be fun and that the 7-channel for Home Theater would be the best way to go. I had a chance to audition the 5700 with my setup for an evening. In word "AWESOME"!!! Excellent for both Home Theater and 2-channel music listening. More detailed sound without having to do any tweaks. I have heard things on both DVD Movies and CDs that were not evident when using the DSP A1. The 5700 doesn't need the two additional front channels, excellent sound stage and imaging in both HT and music. The 5-channel option is great for watching sports or for party music. Now, if i can only sell that DSP A1.........
