>good central image, off axis lots of astigmatism, v bad near edge

Are you sure you're not confusing this with the Meade 18mm WA. Yes the WA has good on-axis performance but pretty lousy at the edge.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
Very decent images. Some dust particles in between the lense elements (undecernable during viewing and when your eye "focuses beyond it"). Lovely true field of view.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
The apparent field of view is quite impressive and quite flat, especially compared to the older Erfle designs. The images are not quite as bright as an equivalent Plossl, but this may be expected with the additional numbers of lens elements. While there is some astigmatism near the edge, it is not very noticible. Compared to the larger panoptics with their correspondingly larger price, this eyepiece is a very good value for the money.

The only reason I give this eyepiece an 8 is because I am not experienced enough with enough different eye pieces to make total judgement even though I think it is supurb.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
Sharp almost to edge in f12 Mak. Sharpness falls off worse in f4.5 Dob, but not as bad as a standard Erfle (compared to old Meade 20mm Research Grade Erfle). Adequate eye relief since I don't wear glasses. Much better eye relief than 16mm Konig. I didn't notice much if any brightness loss when compared to a similar focal length 4 element design such as a Konig or Plossl. Good eyepiece for the price.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
Great wide field eyepiece! Eye relief is comfortable and I can hold the entire field of view easily. Views are sharp and contrasty. The only reason this eyepiece get knocked down to a 9 is that the edge correction falls off a little at the edges. It still performs better than an erfle or a Konig, and has much better eye relief. Posibly the best eyepiece on the market for the money.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
A good eyepiece. Lacks the eye relief of its bigger brothers(or sisters). Field not as well corrected as the 24.5 mm. Even at F10 and F12.
Does'nt have the internal refections of my 24.5 mm. Does'nt cut the mustard compared to some more prestigious wide field eyepieces but for the price it is a reasonable buy.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
Great tack sharp wide field EP, very little glare on bright objects as compared to even higher priced EP's, there may be a little bit of distortion at the very enge of the fiels stop but who observes to that point anyway. Many people think these EP's are obsolete but I have done side by side comparo with a 19mm Panoptic and there was less glare on bright objects with the meade over the TV and its made in Japan. The ER is not bad and I think I'll be buying the 24.5SWA next. I highly recomend this ep and it works great with both TV powermates in a F6 5" Mac/newt plus the price is nice as well.

Wonderful views but short on eye relief for eyeglass wearers. If you don't wear glasses I would recommend this eyepiece as a good value.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
One of my favorites. Gives the best combination of magnification, field, and contrast in my C8. Edge sharpness, like the 24.5mm, a lacking but I'll put money on it that my scope causes most of the astigmatism. Eye relief is not enough for glasses but still wuite good. Compared to the 19mm Panoptic, probably not as good, but VERY close. For almost 100 bucks cheaper though, a definite recommendation.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
This eyepiece has quickly become one of my favorites. It gives bright, sharp images in 90% of the field of view. At the edges there's a noticeable image deterioration when used in my 8 inch f/4 Newtonian. In comparison with the often larger and more expensive wide field eyepieces, this Meade SWA 18mm is strongly recommended.

Very nice eyepiece. Reasonably wide field. Eye relief could be a bit greater, but otherwise fine.

A great eyepiece with my 8" SCT at f/10. Works very well with the Celestron BinoViewer and with a TeleVue 2.5x PowerMate.

Meade Super Wide Angle 18mm
Used in a 8" F6 this eyepiece showed good contrast and good on axis sharpness. Eyerelief is very short. I found that my eyelashes hit the lens when viewing. Image does degrade in the outer 1/3rd to 1/4th of the view. For the money it's OK. Look at others before you buy

I'm using this eyepiece on a 4" f5.4 TeleVue Genesis SDF. The central section is pretty sharp and contrasty. A large portion of the egde suffers in my scope. As far as sharpness and contrast go on-axis I would rate performance as comparable to a good quality Plossl.
