Celestron Ultima 7X50
I bought mine for just over $200. Excellent eye relief makes viewing with glasses no problem. Very sharp field of view. Stunning views of M42 and Plaiedes on first night out. A lot of bang for the buck.

This series is being discontinued, and you can now pick them up at a bargain. I got mine for $105 including shipping (Adorama)!!! They are absolutely the best binocs among the lower price range having FMC lenses and the better BAK4 prisms, along with a tripod adapter.

a river trip, fine optics.

Celestron Ultima 7X50
I purchased this binocular as my first telescope. All I can say is WOW! Mighty Jupiter and it's four biggest moons, the gorgeous Pleiades star cluster, and the Andromeda Galaxy thoroughly impressed both me, my spouse, and my work mates, the first night out with this binocular. They have a high quality feel and look to them along with smooth mechanical movement on the hinge, focuser, and the right diopter adjustment. Images were clear and focused no matter what I looked at whether it be astronomical or terrestrial. I can wholeheartedly recommend this brand of binocular to anyone searhcing for a first telescope or anyone looking for an elite product. Good job, Celestron!

Great views, clear all the way. Nice & light and easy to hold the leatherette finish. Only complaint is the crappy carry case!

Great Binoculars! They deliver bright, crisp images. Very comfortable to hold and to look through. I purchased mine through a local dealer for about $210. Highly recomended.

As a beginner, any comparative rating that I could give should be taken with a grain of salt however, I have to say, these would be the definitive pair of 7x50's if they were nitrogen purged, and if when focusing, the eye piece’s clicked into place to avoid having to refocus. This would drive up the price, and may seem unnecessary, but there is nothing else that could be done to improve them. I give them a 9 out of ten, price not withstanding. As time goes by, and I have a chance to make comparisons at star parties, I may have to up this rating to full ten, especially since mine cost about $250 at S&S Optika in Englewood, CO. I should probably add that I bought the Ultima's because I had nothing to watch January’s lunar eclipse with. People stood in line at the Sommers-Baush Observatory in Boulder, CO. and proclaimed it the best line to stand in. I never thought I would enjoy watching people use my binoculars more than I would enjoy using them myself. I am offically hooked on star gazing as of 9:44 pm MST Jan. 20th, year 2000.

Celestron Ultima 7X50
I own both the 7x50 and 10x50 versions of the Celestron Ultima. These are high quality Japanese made binoculars that are lightweight, comfortable to hold, and they just look and feel very well made with plenty of attention to detail. The central focusing wheel is very smooth in its operation. The antireflection coatings show only dim green reflections, indicating high light transmission. Optically, the image is bright and the field is flat. Very little edge distortion. Stars are bright pinpoints, as they should be. I have seen no chromatic aberration, even on Jupiter, Mars or the moon. The 10x50 reveals more detail due to its higher magnification, but the 7x50 has a considerably wider field of view and is great for scanning the sky.

For the price, these binoculars are definitely a best buy. It's unfortunate that Celestron is replacing this line with their new "Ultima DX". If you can get an Ultima, do it. These will quickly become your favorites.
