Orion Optiluxe 50mm
Well made with good views but the kidney beaning is hard to take for very long. It does give that "walking in space" effect but again, eye placement is critical and difficult to hold. There is no eyeguard to help position the eye.

Contrary to the preceding review, there is no kidney bean effect that I can detect with this eyepiece (with an f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain). ANY low-power, long-focal length eyepiece will give problems with a central obstruction if you try it out in the daytime, because the pupils of your eyes are smaller than the exit pupil of the telescope and may even be smaller than the shadow of the central obstruction. These eyepieces are for use at night with eyes fully dilated.

Like any other 50mm eyepiece, this one has lots of eye relief. Most users will probably want to make an eyecup; I made a retractable one out of dark foam rubber, wrapped around the eyepiece and glued edge to edge.

Orion Optiluxe 50mm
Use it a lot in the observatorys nine inch f/8 APO. Has good edge sharpness but do make an eye cup as it helps with the black out affect that most 50mm eyepieces have. I've seen no kidney bean affect at all, from f/6.3 to f/12.
Over all, a very good low power eyepiece that well worth the money.
