I had to take them to small claims court to get my money back under their advertised money back policy.

This comment is for the Scope City in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd:

First let me say that the service I received was great.
Had a slight problem with the first scope I purchased
there, and they corrected the problem with absolutely
no hassle. I arrived there just before closing and
the manager Jeff kept the store open almost a full hour
later than usual just to make sure that I got the things
that would work best with my scope. He was very helpful
in recommending the best equiptment and he told me to
"take my time" in deciding what I thought was best too.
As a result I feel very good about my purchases and I
look foward to doing business with him again in the
future. Thank you Jeff!

I've purchased a pair of binoculars, a telescope, and accessories from the Sherman Oaks store. Friendly service, but sometimes extremely unhelpful and frustrating. Their prices are high compared to others listed here. I'll use them when convenient, but given a choice I'll go elsewhere.

i have been a customer of scope city for almost 3 years now. i have been to everyone of their locations and was treated with the most helful service and cooperation. i have also searched everywhere on thw web and in magazines for the best prices out there and scope city always matched mail order prices without shipping charges. also given that they are so dedicated to advising us properly, even if you did see something out their for a lower price you will never want to sacrifice the service for a lowsey few dollars on some unknown dealer who i would't trust in a million years with my money or product. thanks scope city!!

I have been going in the Sherman Oaks store for almost five years. Jeff, the manager, has always been extremely courtous and helpful. I purchased my first scope from another dealer, but Jeff was always very very helpful. Never was he condesending as I was learning the hobby and looking back, his advice has always been right on. I have found the prices to be very competitive in some areas, not so in others. I have paid more for certain things that I could have mail ordered for less elsewhere, but the service counts for something. For these reasons, I recently purchased the top of the line Tele Vue system from Jeff at scope city. They worked with me on the price of the whole system.

When I went there, they were very rude and not helpful
at all. I ended up buying my scope from somewhere else even
though Scope City is closer to me. Prices were OK but NOT
the best I've seen.

The Scope City in Costa Mesa........run go else where..anywhere talk about heads in the sky. these folks are worst then car salemen "Used". I went a couple of different times to see different folks and they where all the same. No returns.. because "They Know whats best for you so a return is not needed" YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!

Ignorance runs amok at ScopeCity. Do not ask them for advice. Also they do not stand behind their recommendations: I returned one item there and bought another. I had six dollars in change coming, but they wouldn't give it to me. NO REFUNDS FOLKS! Not even a penny. I had to take a gift certificate for six measly dollars.

Very Friendly and eager service. Only negative thing is when we bought the LX-200 they told us they would columate it in the store for us by hanging stars from the ceiling. They must have thought we were pretty dumb!

After lots of reflection I decided to call Scope City about a Parks 12.5" Newtonian on a Superior mount. It seems they are the only dealer in the US which carries this make of traditional Newtonian with massive GE mounts. On their web they advertise that there is a return privilege on any product mail ordered through them if you are not 100% satisfied. They key word here is “mail ordered”. When I made it clear that I would be checking the scope out for the quality as advertised, they wouldn't take my order with the understanding that I could choose to return the scope. At the same time the salesperson didn’t reassure me that they would stand by the product in any other way such as being willing to swap out defective parts.

I was accused of being uncertain about what I wanted, and that I should only order if I was absolutely sure that I wanted a Parks. When I explained that I wanted the scope described, with the quality implied in the ads, and that I required some protection as a consumer purchasing a scope unseen from a dealer far away (they are in California I am in the Midwest) they didn't see my point.I was told that they would consult with their manager who would call me back. He never did.

Even though the Parks scope seemed to be a tremendous value, I ended up buying a mount and optical tube from Parallax. I paid more for a smaller telescope than I would have for the Parks product. However, after having talked to Joe at Parallax, I am confident that I will receive quality and that they will stand by their product.

How do these guys stay in business?

SCOPE CITY IS TERRIBLE.THEY GIVE BAD ADVICE.THEY MISLEAD YOU ON THEIR PRODUCTS AND TRY TO PUSH PARKS PRODUCTS ONLY. DO NOT GO TO SCOPE CITY.OCEANSIDE PHOTO AND TELESCOPE BLOWS THEM AWAY.

I go to the Sherman Oaks store. Jeff is always helpful and takes his time to answer questions. I buy lot's of stuff there and he give great advise!!! I have never had to return anything - I do try to do my research before I go in, but they always help and I never feel any question is too dumb.

Wife went to buy LX-90 for my birthday. Scope City didn't have any instock, but said it would have a shipment in a week. The store wrote up the order, then charged our card $100 over the list price. When my wife went back to complain, the store personnel told her the return policy did not allow for refinds, only store credit. Scope City refused to acknowledge that the policy for return merchandise couldn't apply when we had - in fact - not received any merchandise ... it was on order. Called the home office, and customer service feigned concern, offered to credit the $100 over charge and give $100 gift certificate, and scope would be in a week later. Accepted offer, byt it took a month to get the Scope via mail. Got the $100 credit, but will NEVER do business with this outfit again.
