Sound quality's a 12. Remote's a 6 (maybe less). I give it a 9 overall, since sound's what this babie's all about.....but did ANYONE at Sony try to use this thing in the dark?!?!?

How does the Sony's TA-E9000ES compare with Yamaha's DSP-A1 , Denon's AVR-5700 THX, Marantz's SR-18, and Pioneer's VSX-09TX Elite?

Sony TA-E9000ES
This is one of the best preamp/processer on the market. The sound is very good and it is built very solid. I first bought the SDP-E800,But needed a new preamp.
I started looking for the best preamp/processer that I could Buy. I only payed $1200.00 for it at a store in Royal oak ,Mi.

The fix for the sync problem with this Sony is here!

pick it up at: http://home5.inet.tele.dk/kimbeck/

It's a PC software program that includes the lastest firmware update to fix the sync problems reported by so many..

Before, I would give the unit 7 because of its problems, but now the problems are gone - With the ES9000 you will hear stuff that the DSP-A1 never knew existed.

Sony TA-E9000ES
great sound remote very difficult to use.with a high end audio video processor like this the remote should be able to work a larger range of components like the remote control on the older TA-E2000ESD it replaced.

Can someone enlighten me about the "sync" problem that I've seen mentioned? Has anyone "fixed" it? Where did you get the fix? Is it available at a Sony site? My unit came from Sony Canada, and seems to be ok. Anyone know what would happen if I did the "fix", and really didn't need to?

Poor remote -- gobbles batteries and is very dark. Otherwise, great unit! Sound is excellent and at the price, unbeatable.

Sony TA-E9000ES
Very easy to use with many features, practically any subwoofer frequency you want. The equalizer was easy to program and was very flexible. However, if you are looking for a better sound stage and imaging try the Rotel RSP-985 for around $1850. The Rotel does have a few quirks with the volume knob and not very easy to use at first. Your choice: sound quality or ease of use.

I played with this unit in my home for a couple of days. I think it sounds horrible. Everything that comes out of the speakers sounds synthesized and un-natural. Music is way overly bright, bass and mid-range is lacking and un-dynamic. I spent plenty of time getting used to all of the settings and adjustments. I exchanged it for a B&K Reference 20 that sounds awesome.
