Anacortes Telescope & Wild Bird
I have bought various things from Anacortes (including a Tak telescope, an SBIG camera and lenses) both through their web page and by phone. Things in stock have always been shipped immediately and accurately. Backordered things have been well handled too. They have always let me know immediatly the details on order delivery. I really appreciate that because I hate unknown waiting periods.

They seem to be completely knowledgable about everything they carry. And they know what products and brands are important to stock. If there's something they don't know they will find the answer. One product I recieved lacked some documentation, and they faxed me a copy of the manual within minutes with all the info I needed.

Their prices and shipping costs are always quite competitive.

I have no reservations about recommending them. Anacortes is run and staffed by real people who know their stuff and work hard for your business.

I ordered from them and the delivery was more than a week past due. I had to call and ask them about the order. Someone there dropped the ball and the order was never placed. They didn't notify me of any problems I had to contact them.....Several other times I contacted them abou product info and everytime the person on the phone couldn't answer my questionns because of lack of producr knowledge. They always had to get someone else to help answer my questions...

Great firm to deal with. Excellent range of products. Not the cheapest but they represent the products very well. Recently purchased some high end products from them and I was looked after better than expected from beginning to end.

Down side is they are reluctant to take VISA from Canadians and thus you have to add in the cost of sending money orders.

My experieces with Anacortes have been disturbing. They are the "nicest" people when they're attempting to make a sale, but don't ask for a better/ matching price, or you'll immediately get treated as some sort of villian. The owner quickly loses respect for you and wants nothing to do with you.

I disagree with a previous review that mentioned that these people as honorable. Herb York (the owner) is perhaps one of the few people in this business that has been continually critized for trying to "plug" his business at sites that prohibit reseller advertisements. Just search for his name on your favorite search engine and you can read about his exploits.

However, I do recognize the fact that these people have a large stock of high-end equipment which may benefit high-end amateur astronomers. I can understand telescope craftsmans taking great pride in their work and becoming offended if you asked for a better price. But these people are only resellers. Drop the attitude Herb...and your prices while you're at it.

Excellent people to deal with. Prices are competivive. Purchased an expensive APO refractor from them which I became dissatisfied with after a few nights under the stars. The scope was a brand new model (serial # in the teens) and I felt it didn't live up to its hype. Amazingly, Herb allowed me to return the scope and refunded the entire purchase price, including shipping. The question isn't whether I'll do business with them again, but whether they'll sell to me again! Got to be some of the best people in the business!

I gave them a vary high rating because I have made many purchases from all around the states and the service they provided was great. They gave me the right information for the product and had a speedy delivery with somthing they didn't have on the shelf.It was nice to talk to a friendly person on the phone that was willing to help so much. many thanks, Ron

Just completed two transactions with Anacortes: a Gibraltar mount paid for by
money order and a starbeam finder by cc. Both were delivered quickly, the mount especially so considering I mailed in an m.o., and the communication from the order desk was friendly and responsive. Both shipments were packed very well and showed up in perfect condition. An excellent experience. Thanks Herb and everyone involved at Anacortes.

Anacortes is THE place to go for the best combination of price, customer service, and information. They are the best at customer communication I have seen thus far, meaning I know what I am getting, when I am getting it, and for what charge. The best part is how hard they work towards customer service. I generally like every person I have interacted with at Anacortes, including Ray, Jim, Herb&Paola, and am never pressed for the "sale". Honest about telescope's comparable strengths, and about anything else I have asked them about.

Nice website with a fair amount of info. From other posts it would appear that their customer service is very good. As for pricing, I buy frequently and each and every time have been able to find identical items considerably less expensive elsewhere. I see several posts here stating Anacortes won't deal on their pricing. I too become offended when people offer less than what I'm advertising. What do I look like, Monty Hall? It's simple, buy from someone else. Unfortunately, I've received the "attitude" as well. I was just inquiring if they had an item in stock that no one else did. They indeed had it. After receiving an answer as if he was doing me a favor, I waited 2 months to buy my $3500 mount elsewhere.

I purchased my LX200 10" from them. I received it a little sooner than they thought I would get it. Jim Bielga helped me immeasurablly and has always responded to my email courteously and promptly. He has always added guidance when asked. I have had at least 8 or 9 transactions with them. Some of them complex and special. They have always come through. I continue to purchase from them.

For the retailers that might read this. This is NOT aimed at Anacortes. I have seen reviews that say it is all right to be offended if a customer asks for a matching price or discount. I have to say I find this attitude STUPID. I am a customer who pays my bills and deals in good faith. Just because I ask doesn't mean anything about the quaility of my money or my future relationship with you. Simply refuse POLITELY and carry on the conversation. If I truly want the discount, well, then you refused the sale, but I will probably be back. Read the FTC data on this, it takes you 10's of thousands of dollars to get solid customers. A polite "no" is cheap and easy.

A very honorable store, carrying mainly 1st class stuff--and with knowledge of it. Their customer service attitude is great. They go to lengths to get difficult orders. They will try to stop you over-spending unnecessarily.

Very helpful regarding a Zoom EP question, even though I told the sales person upfront that I was just looking for info at the time and had no intention of making a purchase yet.

Thank You for Astromart. What a totally excellent website. The benifit to the hobby is enormous. If you are considering a purchase, you may save buying used if your budget is tight, you can buy and sell items giving you the chance to try alot a various products.
I have become an eyepiece junkie.
The support of the site alone makes them the best choice. If Herb were greedy, he would not offer this site as people can routinely save on good used gear.

Some people seem to complain about price matching. I have dealt in retail and dealt with these types before. Anacortes is a store, not a mexican flea market.
If someone else has a better price and that is your only concern, then buy it from them plain and simple. But these types would not be asking Anacortes to match the price if there was not a catch. Maybe the other offer for a blem or second, or just a real low price on an item that is never really is stock. It is called bait and switch it happens all the time in retail and Anacortes should not be taken to task over it.

I love the Anacortes people. I have bought several scopes and mounts from them and lots of Tele Vue eyepieces. The are always super helpful and on the rare occasions when I had a return, it was easy and no questions asked. Their prices are always as low as you can find among the stocking dealers. I have called them one day and had a Tele Vue scope on my doorstep the next day. They even shipped me some Tele Vue eyepieces when I was on vacation in Barbados. They have my confidence and i buy from them whenever I can.
