Anacortes Telescope & Wild Bird
I have placed many orders with Anacortes, some large and some small. Their service has been absolutely the tops in every case. They have gladly acted as go-between with me and Meade when I had some minor problems with my Meade scope. Their telephone and e-mail responses are always prompt, helpful, and friendly. I think their prices are competitive. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best in mail-order astronomical equipment! I'd give them an 11 if I could.

I would place their customer service as tops- friendly, knowledgable and patient. their shipping and communications were also very good. Never have I been pushed into a purchase or rushed.I liked their ability to answer questions about their products from obscure to general. Since their company has expanded though, it remains to be seen if this quality of service can be maintained. I think they are the best outfit out of the big four or five companies I have done business with. 9 is the rating I give them, since it is hard to give anyone a "10"....very tough act to follow.

Anacortes is an outfit I keep coming back to - to browse and to buy. They gave me a very good price on a Takahashi and I'm going back to them for more. No problems shipping into Canada, good tracking, personal attention and reliable follow-up. Delivery was prompt (and saved my bacon when other equipment died just as I was about to start an astronomy trip). Even with the decline of the Canadian dollar I still do business here.

I have bought items twice over the web and once in person. On all occasions Paula has been professional and helpful. The only downside has been the inability to use my Visa card as it is an international order. I reside in Australia but have never been concerned with security or payment. In addition they put me onto TEC and I have been extremely happy with their recommendations.

The one rating is because the kid on the phone was polite. What is with these people? Their web site advertised a scope on the home page. I called and found out they had it and also one a little different for $100 more, which was fine. Now this is over a $3000 sale. When I said I would take it, the kid said that they would have to charge more shipping than what was on the web site. When I questioned that he came back and asked me where I lived. When I told him he said that they could not sell to that state, but that he could double check and get back to me the next day. With all the times the kid kept me on hold and the attempts to gouge for more shipping, I told the kid no thanks, he needn't bother calling back.

First they try to get more shipping than they advertise and then refuse to sell when the 'extra' shipping is questioned? True, there may be some restrictions on where they may sell, but their web site should say so. Herb York should spend a little more time tending shop than constantly messing around with his Astromart project.

The scope above was a StarMaster and Rick restricts where we sell it and when it is reshipped from our shop we do have to charge shipping.
You think I need to spend less time on AstroMArt - I couldn't agree more.

I give the Yorks the highest rating as astro dealers. I have bouhgt all of my equipment and software from them and am entirely satisfied. When asked a question, they are interested and helpful. My only beef is that they are so far away!

I have mix feelings about Anacortes....My first dealing with them I purchased a scope that was to be drop shipped from Texas nautical. I paid extra for 3day shipping. After a week and scope did not arrive I called them. Apparently there was a mixup in ordering. Well Texas nautical sent it out after the second order next day air. Since it wasw a friday I recieved it the following monday..10days to recieve the scope . When I questioned Anacortes on shipping cost for 3day air they wouldn't refund the difference because Texas Nautical sent it next day air..Well I certainly had to pay for their mistake. ....Couple months later I purchased a high end scope($4000) When I recieved it it was out of collmination.When I question Ray and Herb they both hinted it was user error...So after a couple nights with this scope I sent it back to the manufacturer to inspect (Anacortes wouldn't take it back). Well surprise OUT OF COLLMINATION>>>NOT USER ERROR...Not wanting to wait 4-6 weeks for repair Anacortes sent me another scope . This new scope had problems to..It had surface scrathing on it a loose base , bent manual a few other items > I contacted Anacortes and was told again impossible the scope was fine when it left their store. Well I guess it makes perfect sense for me to spend over 4k on a new scope and ruin it myself . YA RIGHT ....Frusrtated with Anacortes and their semi rude attitude I sent this scope back again to the manufacturrer. WELL SURPRISE...They found all the listed problems that I found on this new scope. The manufacturer was stand up and fixed all the problems. They to hinted that somtimes when their scopes go through a middle man he see's similiar problems...I suspect someone in their store was fooling around with this scope and caused the problems... But after my frusrtation cooled off and a couple of months past I ended up ordering from them again .....I keep reading such good experiences with them and maybe the past things were a fluke ....To make a long story short since then I have ordered several items from them without any mix ups or problems....And their staff the last few times have been helpful with these transactions......Will I keep ordering from them ? I think so We are all human and make mistakes . A couple more smooth transactions and my rating will go up....
