Sony STR-DA90ESG
While I don't recommend Sony receivers, if you're hell-bent on getting one of the ES line, I saw some decent prices:

GA7ES $495 ($750 list)
GA8ES $595 ($950 list)
DA80ES $950 ($1,200 list)
DA90ESG $1,255 ($1,600 list)

The company is in San Diego, but unfortunately I lost their name after I decided to purchase elsewhere... think it might be www.soundpros.com (they have discounted prices on these models, but call them and you should get above prices...)

I have now owned this unit for 3 weeks...the sound is great. Can't stand the remote and the GUI (user interface) which works with the TV. The only remote and I mean only remote you can use is the one that comes with it. You cannot teach another remote (ie Marantz mark II) to learn any of the functions on the A/V receiver. Even other Sony remotes will not work. The DVD, VCR, and DSS can be partly used with this remote but all of the functions on the componemts work (ie the banner on the Sony DSS can only be worked by using the remote for the DSS). THIS IS ALL CONFIRMED BY SONY...because of this go for the STR-DA80ES which the same except for the GUI.

I've had this receiver for 1.5 years now, and while it sounds and looks good, I've never been too happy with the user interface (the GUI, which I shelled out a lot extra for). It's really a hassle to use; had I known I wouldn't have bought it. For instance, the "function" mode operates separately from the "sound" mode, which means if you play a DVD and set the sound mode to Dolby, then later on, say you go to play music and select the CD function, the sound mode is still on Dolby, so you must manually, additionally set it (using the lame GUI) to music. I don't know what Sony was thinking. Obviously they didn't test this in a real setting, where with extended use, it would have annoyed them too.
