unbelievable! Pro Logic and DD sound incredable. Expandability is not an issue. Learning remote is nice but should be backlit.

Although this is a very complex audio component, once you learn how to tweek it a little(you almost need a degree to do so) you realize the potential of it.

Easily the best sounding unit in its class. Flexible subwoofer configurations,
impressive build quality, great DSP modes and the list goes on and on and on.
A few minor quibbles: No 6-channel external decoder input, no pre-out/main-in loop for the rear channels, no tuner and could use a more spohisticated remote.
(The new DSP-A1 addresses a couple of the above PLUS it adds DTS processing.)

Awesome sound !!!!
I wish it had the remote of the 2092 though.
I don't understand why out of all yamaha products, this is the only one that doesn't rate their amps down to 2 ohms??? Anyone know the answer to this please email me at: suppers_ready@juno.com
The DSP modes are much more natural sounding than the 2092
However the 2092 has more detail in the rear effects.
I am not sure if I will keep this unit or trade it in for a 2092.
I can get both units at the same price.
Any suggestions?

Why would you need anything more than this?
Great sound. Awesome amps. Great DSP.

A few grips:
Lack of A/B speaker switch. There is no way to turn off main speakers without disconnecting them.
No multi room
Power amps not rated stable down to 2 ohms, but not sure if thats an issue.
Remote not backlit. It would have been nice.
Only 3 inputs on power amps. Cannot add another decoder unless you have an extra 2 channel amp. Why did they do that?

Other than that, its an awesome unit. Especially if you get it for under $1500 at closeout like I did :)

First of all, please don't think I don't know what good sound is. My friend an I have about $20,000 worth of audio equipment. This unit is expensive, I know ($2500 retail, we paid $2100)! I am very confident in saying that the DSP-A3090 is the best surround sound reciever Yamaha makes, and it is the only one I would buy. If you want great sound, don't go for anything less than the Yamaha DSP-A3090. It also has features out the wazoo! It has an S-Video input and output for every single device (LD, DVD, VCR1, VCR2, TV/DSS), plus S-Video monitor output! It also has an optical digital input for every device (around 10-15)! It also has coaxial and AC3-RF LD inputs. The on-screen GUI is great, it even tells you when you raise/lower the volume! One of the best features is an autodect of what surround sound mode to use, based on the input from the devices. In other words, if the receiver doesn't say Dolby Digital, then your device isn't sending Dolby Digital! Many of our DVD's said they were Dolby Digital, but when we played them, we could only get Pro Logic. Interesting? We thought it was. I could go on and on about this receiver, but if you have any more questions, just email me. I would be glad to help anyone out. I know I love getting other people's opinions when I buy something.

You overpayed horribly for this unit. It can be had for around $1000 brand new now.
It is a great unit but the DSP A1 is better, especially if you payed $2100
The DSP A1 can be had for $1999 shipped

Why don't you retailers set a lower price for it!

Is the sound lessened by the optical input ?

Oh my gosh..the most awesome piece I have ever heard. I got a BRAND NEW one from a fantastic store in So. Cal YESTERDAY!! It cost me a grand!! It's easily still worth two and a half IMHO. It was easy to configure and for the first time in my Hi-Fi life....I AM SATISFIED AND NEED NO MORE EQUIPMENT!! If you see this piece...BUY, BUY, BUY!!!
