The brightest sharpest binos I've ever owned, great wide FOV, and once set for your eyes there's no focusing from 50m to infinity

I have the 7x50 FMT's (not rubber armored). I looked thru every pair of binoculars in Houston I could find and these were easily the winners. I wear glasses and the 7x50 FMT's are the best with the 10x70 FMT's a close second. In sharpness only the Leica's and Zeiss were comparable, all of them being sharp almost, but not quite to the edge. In brightness nothing I looked thru was even close. When compared side by side with a pair of $1200 Zeiss 8x56 night owls the Fugi's were so much better I was amazed. The Fugi's show only the slightest almost non-existant color fringe on the edge of a full moon. When used in the daytime no flare whatsoever when looking in the direction of the sun. The Fugi's are a handfull and not well suited for carrying around all day but the extra weight does steady them a bit when handheld.

The best 7x50 binos I've seen. Super bright. They are heavy for 7x50's though! For astronomy, skip the "R" and get the non-armored version. At his price, push in eyecups would be nice (vice fold down), since I swap between using my glasses and not, but thats pretty minor. HUGE eyepieces with very comfortable eye relief. Why don't these guys make telescopes!?

I totally agree with everyone else on the unbeliavable brightness
of these binoculars. I also compared them side by side with the
2x more expensive Zeiss T* 7x45, and even in bright daylight,
the Fuji was noticably brighter. The Fuji has flat field optics,
so the subjects off the center are also extremely sharp. The only
thing better about the Zeiss was that it had a wider apparent field,
yet I bought the Fuji without hesitation. All of my friends who
have looked through my Fuji have been amazed and one of them
amusingly commented that "it was better than the real view".
Fuji has done an amazing job with the EBC coatings. It's possible
that these are the best binoculars you can buy in the world.

In a nutshell, simply superb! These are the brightest, clearest and most rugged binoculars I have ever owned. They have withstood many years of use and abuse yet have suffered no ill effects. I only wish the 16x70's had the same wonderful eyerelief.

Looked at 5 different brands and models. 7x50 FMTR's were somewhat big and bulky but the image was CLEARLY superior. Wide, bright, sharp field. The image jumps out at you. Great for eyeglass wearers.

I've always lusted after Leitz Trinovids. When I could finally afford a high-end binocular, I tested out a number of them. The best that I've ever looked through turned out to be the Fujinon SX-FMT 7X50. I bought them, and have been totally satisfied for nearly 3 years of use. You can't do better.

Bar none, the finest binoculars I have ever looked thru. Everyone who has used them has commented in a similar vein. I originally bought these for the 1994 total solar eclipse in Peru. The sight of the Sun's corona thru Fujinon optics will be with me throughout my life. If you can buy only one fine piece of optics in your life, buy Fujinon FMTR-SX 7X50's.

I've got the non-armored version which is a couple ounces lighter. These are outstanding binoculars! Everyone I let use them is astounded at the clarity and brightness of the images. The wide FOV combined with the excellent image lends a picture window quality to everything. In fact, colors seem more vibrant through these binos than they do in real life!

For astronomy, the large exit pupil and low magnification makes them ideal for quick handheld scanning of the skies or large objects like the Orion nebula. Jupiter's moons are easy handheld when the moons aren't right next to the planet. In perfect focus, there's no flaring on Jupiter. The wide FOV keeps you from getting "lost" in the constellations.

A couple caveats: weight and eyepiece focusing. These binos are *heavy* for 7x50s and will tire your arms quickly while pointing up. However, the views are so gorgeous that it's worth the effort to keep them up. Extended upward handholding would be quite a workout.....

The eyepiece focusing is not as big a problem as it may appear. Due to the very wide spacing of the objectives the focus range is highly forgiving and your eyes do most of the work. In fact, everything from about 50' on out is at infinity, so the focus setting you use for astronomy will be fine for most terrestrial objects as well. Obviously, the eyepiece focusing is highly inconvenient for birding.

In short, these are phenomenal binos for the money! The light throughput really has to be seen to be believed. Much brighter than my Pentax 8x42 DCF-WP roofs. But the Pentaxes are great for their size and I'll hang onto them for hiking and birding.

I have to echo the reviews of most others, these are great binoculars. They have excellent eye relief, quite comfortable on the eye. Great field, very good star definition, almost to the edge of the field. Surprisingly the background is darker and more contrasty than I would expect in a 7x50. The only caution/comment I have to offer is as follows: The supplied case with the non-rubberized version is pretty hard, it has a id. holder on the inside, this has the potential to abrade the leatherette coating on the binoculars. I in fact do not use the supplied case. These versions should have a case like the 10x70 and the 16x70. The binoculars, themself, merit a 10.

I have had a lot of binoculars in my life and the Fujinon 7x50 sx-fmtr is going to be the absolute last ones I will ever need. The best I have ever seen or even heard abouy, without a doubt!!!I remember the first few days I had them, I was just "giddy" with excitement,they were that much fun.After 6 years I still have that feeling.Every time,Serious! Everyone that has used them is just astounded! My brother the phycisist PooPoos most everything .....including my binocs....I got him a pair for X-mas.Now he cant stop raving about them.Ha.
They are a bit heavy ,But I dont even notice. As everyone has already mentioned the clarity is unreal,and the ability to scan from 20 yds. to infinity without messing with focusing knobs is just really sweet.
I do have only one problem w/ them ,and that is the rubber eyecups. They just dont last. I've gone through 2 sets so far ($25 set!)....I do believe fujinon could come up with something a bit more heavy duty to match the quality of the binocs themselves. But even that I am more than willing to overlook. If you are thinking of getting a great pair of binoculars to last you to the end of your days ...these are they!!Get them ...you will not ever be sorry.And by the way they are really reasonable...Look around on the net ..Under $500 !!!!!!!!

Just "Amening" everything else that has been said here. I use mine for everything, although I got them primarily for elk hunting. They are big and bulky for that, but with the bino-slide system from Crooked Horn Outfitters, they really are not a burden. They are rugged, by the way. I've had them in hot and dusty and cold and snowing at 12,000 feet in Colorado and no problems. I did get individual eye covers instead of the rainguard for the ocular pieces. I like that a lot better.
I can see several of Jupiter's moons with them. On the tripod they are better than my 20x60 ED glass Celestron spotting scope.
My neighbors probably think I'm a peeping tom because I've always got them out looking at birds, stars, trees, helicopters and interesting lighting situations early morning and late evening.
I do like the B&L Elite 8x50's, but not for twice the price of the Fuji's.
I would like to see the eyepieces indexed better, plus I would really like to be able to have detents or "locks" available for the eyepieces. That would make their use even handier in the field.
For those who want center focusing, here is an example of the benefit of IF and depth of field. My hunting buddies all had nice, expensive roof prism binoculars (swaro, burris, zeiss, and leica) with center focus. But I was always on stuff quicker with me "behemoth's" as they called them. They would raise the glasses and focus. I just popped the caps at lifted them to my eyes. Much quicker. And the view at dusk was outstanding! An earlier post says the view through these is better than the real thing. That is my favorite line to describe these binoculars.
The previous poster mentions his brother the physicist. My brother is a physics teacher and his comment was that these were the first binoculars he's ever used that didn't make his eyes hurt.
I've owned Fuji cameras and lenses since the 70's and the quality of their optics with the EBC coatings has always been outstanding. These binoculars really are as good as everyone says.

Absolutely pristine, non-distorted image to the extreme edge of FOV. The brightness is not matched by any other with the possible exception of the newer Zeiss offerings.

For astronomy, nothing remains for appreciable improvement. I prefer these to any number of apo high-end telescopes. They give pleasure!
