Lumicon
The best supply company for instruments and help. Also sell the Giant Easy Guider for the LX200 photo work. Very helpful folks who won't want to sell you something you don't need or aren't sophisticated enough to use.

I received excellent service on 3 of 4 contacts. They sent me a manual for their DSC before I purchased. After I purchased and installed the DSC, I requested slightly different part for that I thought would work better - it was at my house in 3 days and was FREE!

On the down side, the installation and user manuals are not very good for a beginner.

As their advertisements do not give clear details on shipping costs, I once called for information and my questions were answered in a way that made me feel like an idiot. I did order the product though (an extension tube), and it was high quality, but they need to work on their people skills regarding customer service. This is not just an elitist hobby for eggheads!

I called only one time - to order hypered film. I spoke with "Dr." Marling. Without even inquiring about what equipment or experience I have, he tried to sell me the whole gamut of astrophotogrophy equipment (none of which I needed). He spoke to me like a recorded message. Rehearsed talk, no listen. He must be an MD.

Very helpful....that is until an overseas long distance call came in. Then the conversation abruptly ended. I bought my scope the next day at Oceanside instead.

In July 98 I ordered from Lumicon one Televue Nagler eyepice. I ordered what they had in stock. What was not in stock I ordered from Astronomics (paid little bit more then from Lumicon but was in stock). From both I received everything on time, brand new and very good packed. Also got good advices from both. I can recommend both companies.

Ordered their H-Alpha prominence filter, delivery to Belgium was timely and processing of invoice accurate. Had very good service on the phone, right questions were asked by them to determine wether I could use the filter or not.

The service was excellent; the explanation and suggestions were very deep and useful in choosing the telescope i wanted and the acessories i needed the most.
Price were in line with the other reselleers but the quality of their products, Filters and off-axis guider, is superior.

Great products (filters!), good service, but long delivery time (in my case, at least). Prices are rather high, but still o.k.

I emailed both Lumicon and Celestron when I realised my Lumicon Sky Vector, sold to me at the same time as my Celestron 8" Starhopper, could not be attached to the sliding machined aluminium bearings on the Starhopper. All I wanted were some suggestions on how to make it work. This was a couple of years ago, and I haven't heard from either! (I sorted out the problem by making a new lightweight waterproof ply base after the original heavy particleboard became distorted from damp and would not rotate properly. New teflon/formica bearings work as well as the original heavy adjustable bearings, and the Sky Vector attaches easily and works well, but no thanks to either Lumicon or Celestron. See my comments also about the Celestron 8" Starhopper.) P.S. the only reason Lumicon scored a 4 is because they have good products.

Lumicon
To their credit, Lumicon was recently bought out by their employees, according to the present manager, Paul. That should help. For example, their website uses "English" in ways to border upon misleading. In other places, it is downright misleading. Be very careful using it, and ask questions. I am told that they want feedback on the website and products and they certainly got it from me. Their 80 mm finderscope/spotter was misrepresented on some points and is badly designed on others (no sensible focusing method). They have been very nice about it and agreed to provide either a house credit or refund. I think that they will improve. Of course, they are already famous for their superb filters.
