Look at Venus, with an APQ 100 next to an AstroPhysics 105 or Takahashi 102, using same power: you will sell quickly both Tak and AP and keep the APQ! The difference is more than marginal.
Hard to believe, I noticed a difference in image quality between AP Traveler(2001 model) and the APQ instantly. I owned many scopes over the years(except the Nikon ED100), and never seen in any other scope the level of imaging of an APQ. The resolution, color fidelity, contrast, are truly to be experienced to be believed. If you find one of these scopes, get a loan if you have to, you'll never go back to anything else for life.
Sure, they go for $6000 minimum for OTA, but hell, we all work to make a living, we deserve the best in life eventually.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
Outstanding scope with perfect optics. This triplet fluorite lens must be one of the best lenses ever made. God only knows what a larger aperture Zeiss would be like. Unbelievable perhaps. I'd love to run the larger 130/1000 or 150/1200 against an AP 130 or AP155.

Images are perfect. It is disapointing looking in other scopes after viewing in this scope. The stellar images are that good.

This scope is worth obtaining if you want perfect images.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
The highest contrast image with the least scattered light of any scope I have ever observed with. Totally color free visual imaging.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
Unbelievable optics. Razor sharp and no colour. Move over Takahashi and and A-P this telescope has NO chromatic aberation visable at any power on Venus.

It gives stunning high power views of Mars and Jupiter. Jupiter looks like an etching with 8 plus bands and white spots etc easily visable. Saturn is amazing withdetail on the globe and in the rings of extremely delicate contrast.

This scope reveals Antares companion in poor conditions easily. The 5th and 6th stars in orion are always visable. It also performs well on deep sky way ahead of other 4 inch scopes in its class.

Double stars way under 1.13" can be seen although not separated as kidney bean like shapes.

People literally cause a stampede to look thru this lovely telescope at star parties. Especially those in the know.

The only sad thing is I don't own this modern work of art. Mount is very easy to use and stable very stable. Drive has a periodic error of around 5-10 " which allows 10 minute photos with no quiding if polar aligned well.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
I will most probably be looking to sell my APQ 100/1000 ota next year 2002.
I can be contacted by email o.k.corral@paradise.net.nz if anyone out there is interested in obtaining a rarely available telescope.

I can send pictures e.t.c. The optical quality will astound you.
If there is a better 100 mm telescope out there I'd like to hear about it.

I did some research and found out that TMB optics ar sourced from a ZEISS subcontractor. Mr. Backs great designs and the Zeiss SC optics are turning out scopes as good and may be better than the APs.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
Unfortunately ZEISS has left the amateur astronomer's market some years ago. Since that time, no APQ refractors have been produced any more. Due to their absolutely superior quality, they are even hardly available on the used market in Germany, their country of origin.

Zeiss APQ 100/1000
Superb optics. Perfect stellar images. Pinpooint stellar images.
In good seeing shows doubles elongated to about 1.0 arcsecond(e.g) Gamma centaurus(1.0" a peanut). Its disappointing looking in other scopes after the Zeiss. The images are so good. Planetary performance is excellent for the 100 m.m. aperturte. The colours on Jupiter, Saturn and Mars in good seeing are wonderful. Jupiters moons are beautiful balls with slightly different colours and different sizes. A wonderful scope to use on its sturdy Ib mount. I've seen spokes on saturns rings in good seeing on several occasions with this scope. It has a Fluorite triplett lens and startests perfect.
