Zeiss 8x30 B/GA
These tough little binocs have accompanied me on so many trips and voyages over the past ten or so years that I've lost count. They travel very well, being built like the proverbial brick relief station, waterproof and rubber armored. Of course, being Zeiss, they're optically very fine, too. Eye relief is outstanding, a real gift when wearing wrap-around sunglasses against the glare of sun on waves. The field of view is comfortably wide, with distortion well-controlled and only noticeable towards the edges. The 8X30 formula makes this an excellent all-around birding glass, with a 3.75mm exit pupil, adequate for low-light conditions. The glass is compact and easy to hold steady, even for those with small hands. It's a bit heavy for its size, but I like the weight, which tends to stabilize, and thus sharpen up, the view.

While I generally prefer Porro prism glasses for astronomical applications, the little Zeiss is one of those exceptions that proves the rule-- this is a pretty nice Milky Way glass, providing sharp star images, roof prisms notwithstanding. The wide field takes in a pleasing expanse of sky, too.

In summary, this is an expensive binocular, but for your money you get a high end precision optical instrument in a rugged housing, a fine general-use glass which works well for travel, birding or astronomy.

Zeiss 8x30 B/GA
Don't be fooled by 30mm aperture these are superb easy to hold binos.

The whoole southern cross can fit in the field of view. Virtually razor sharp ove the whole field

Highly recommended.

Zeiss 8x30 B/GA
Great wee binovulars to hold and use. Lovely images. Great for birding or viewing distant vistas. Hard to put down. Expensive but very easy to use and ruggedly constructed.

Zeiss 8x30 B/GA
I have used a pair of Zeiss 8x30's for more than 10 years. They are so bright and clear. I recently purchased a pair of the new Swarovski EL 10x42's which are also superb, but the Zeiss has beautiful clarity and comfort next to these.
